The wait for Euphoria Season 3 is almost over. The HBO drama held its big Los Angeles premiere on April 7, 2026, at the TCL Chinese Theatre. The night brought out stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer. But the most powerful moment came from creator Sam Levinson. He gave an emotional speech dedicating the new season to the actors the show has lost.

Levinson used the spotlight to honor Angus Cloud and Eric Dane. Cloud played the beloved character Fezco. Dane played the troubled father Cal Jacobs. The creator also remembered producer Kevin Turen. The room grew quiet as he explained why the new episodes took four years to make.

Sam Levinson Opens Up About Loss and the Long Gap Between Seasons

Fans have wondered why Season 3 took so long. Levinson did not dance around the question. He said the strikes and the busy schedules of the young cast were part of it. But the real reason was deeper. He needed time to figure out how to respect the people who passed away.

โ€œWhen Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply, and I fought hard to keep him clean. The year he died, 2023, he was one of 73,000 people in America who died of a fentanyl overdose.โ€

The creator spoke honestly about his pain. He described losing Cloud as a moment that forced him to see life differently. He said death gives life meaning. Levinson told the crowd you cannot be arrogant about being alive. He called existence a gift and a blessing.

The tribute did not stop there. He dedicated Season 3 to โ€œthose who we lost.โ€ He named Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, and producer Kevin Turen. He ended his speech with a quote from a Jewish leader: โ€œThe only way to see great light is to pass through great darkness.โ€ Then he smiled and said it feels good to be on the other side.

Keeping Fez Alive: Levinsonโ€™s Emotional Decision for the Show

Many assumed the show would write out Fez after Angus Cloud died in July 2023. The actor was only 25. But Levinson made a surprising choice. He kept the character alive on screen. He explained his reason to reporters on the red carpet.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t keep him alive in real life but I could keep his character alive in the show. I think heโ€™d be very proud of it.โ€

Levinson shared that Fez still appears in Season 3. Other characters talk to him on the phone. The creator wanted to honor his friend. He fought hard to help Cloud get clean during his life. He said he looked Cloud in the eye and told him he needed him to be sober. He wanted to rely on him for the show. Sadly, Cloud could not win that battle. Levinson said the problem with addiction is that the person has to want sobriety for themselves. But he added that you should never give up on people.

Eric Daneโ€™s Final Performance Before His Passing

The night also honored Eric Dane. The actor passed away in February 2026 at age 53. He had been fighting ALS. Dane managed to film his scenes for Season 3 before he died. Levinson recalled telling Dane there was no pressure to return. But Dane wanted to be there.

Levinson told Variety that Dane showed up with so much grace and dignity. The team worked the actorโ€™s slurred speech into the story. They did not hide his condition. They used it to add truth to the character of Cal Jacobs. Levinson called working with Dane an honor.

Zendaya and Cast Hit the Red Carpet

The premiere was a big Hollywood event. Zendaya wore a brown satin halter gown by Ashi Studio. Sydney Sweeney chose a white draped cape dress from Pierre Cardinโ€™s 2007 collection. Alexa Demie wore vintage Bob Mackie. Hunter Schafer shined in a sequin Roberto Cavalli dress.

The cast seemed happy to be together again. Zendaya recently told Drew Barrymore that Rue taught her so much about life. She said the crew watched her grow up. She owes a lot to the show.
