The HBO series Euphoria ended its third season on May 31, 2026, with an episode that left no character untouched. The 93-minute finale, titled “In God We Trust,” killed off the show’s main character Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, halfway through the episode. This came one week after the show shocked viewers by killing Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi.
Creator Sam Levinson confirmed after the episode that Euphoria Season 3 is the final season of the series. The show, which first aired in June 2019, ran for seven years and turned its young cast into household names.
Rue Bennett Dies From Fentanyl-Laced Pills Given By Her Boss Alamo
The Euphoria Season 3 ending delivers its biggest shock when Rue dies on her sponsor Ali’s couch. Earlier in the episode, Rue escapes from Laurie’s compound after Faye betrays her. She makes it back to Alamo Brown, the strip club owner she works for. Alamo, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, gives Rue money and time off. But he also leaves out a bottle of Percocet pills, knowing Rue struggles with addiction.
Rue goes to Ali’s home to recover. The next morning, Ali finds her dead. He tests the pills and discovers they were laced with fentanyl. Alamo poisoned Rue after learning she was working as an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Sam Levinson explained the decision to kill Rue in a post-episode segment.
“It just felt like the honest ending. The honest ending is people like Rue don’t make it.”
The episode includes a dream sequence where Rue reunites with Fezco, played by the late Angus Cloud. Cloud died in real life in 2023 from an accidental overdose. The scene shows Rue and Fezco together in a field, which became an emotional moment for viewers.
Ali Avenges Rue’s Death By Killing Alamo
After finding Rue dead, Ali takes matters into his own hands. He puts on his old military uniform and goes to Alamo’s strip club with a shotgun. Ali confronts Alamo and demands a standoff. Alamo’s right-hand man Bishop removes the bullets from Alamo’s gun. Ali then shoots Alamo multiple times, killing him.
Colman Domingo, who plays Ali, delivers a powerful speech at his final Narcotics Anonymous meeting before seeking revenge.
“I’m tired of losing people. Talking to kids, helping kids, pouring my heart and soul into kids, only to not see them get a second chance. You’re either making the world a better place, or you’re making it worse. In the end, it’s that simple.”
The episode ends with Ali visiting the Texas farmhouse where Rue found peace earlier in the season. He prays with the family and imagines Rue sitting at the table. She smiles at him and says, “May God bless us all.”
Laurie Dies By Suicide To Avoid Prison
Laurie, played by Martha Kelly, meets her end early in the finale. The DEA raids her compound after Rue’s undercover work. Knowing she cannot escape prison, Laurie ties a rope around her neck and jumps from the roof of her home, dying instantly.
Laurie was one of the show’s most dangerous characters, running a drug operation that forced Rue into working as a mule. Her death closes that storyline completely.
Cassie and Maddy Turn Nate’s Mansion Into an OnlyFans Content House
Following Nate Jacobs’ death in the previous episode, Cassie Howard and Maddy Perez are left to deal with the aftermath. Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, and Maddy, played by Alexa Demie, decide to rent out bedrooms in Cassie and Nate’s house to other OnlyFans models. They turn the property into a content creation house to pay off their debts.
The two characters, who spent much of the series as rivals, appear to be on good terms without Nate in the picture. Lexi Howard, played by Maude Apatow, declines to join them. She struggles with losing Rue to drugs and parts ways with Cassie.
Jules Gets Only One Scene With No Dialogue
Jules Vaughn, played by Hunter Schafer, appears in only one scene during the 93-minute finale. She has no spoken lines. The scene shows Jules crying, but the episode does not make clear whether she knows Rue has died.
A flashback in Rue’s dream sequence shows Rue watching Jules ride her bike, which calls back to the show’s pilot episode. The two characters do not share a final moment together in the finale.
Fans on social media expressed disappointment with how little screen time Jules received. Many expected a proper goodbye between Rue and Jules after their complicated relationship over three seasons.
