Production on Fallout Season 3 is moving forward, and new set footage has confirmed that Walton Goggins has officially returned to the wasteland as the fan-favorite character, The Ghoul. Fresh videos and images from the filming location have surfaced online, giving viewers a clear look at the actor back in character for the upcoming installment of the Prime Video series.
The footage shows Goggins on location in Pomona, California, where the production team transformed the area around the historic Fox Theater into a post-apocalyptic setting. The venue has been redesigned as the fictional “Salt Lake Sinema,” a movie theater that appears to have survived the nuclear fallout in the show’s universe. The building is covered with old cinema posters, though the footage does not reveal exactly what The Ghoul is doing there.
New Set Footage Shows The Ghoul in Pomona
Goggins was recently spotted filming scenes for the third season in Pomona, California. The production team dressed the Fox Theater to look like part of the wasteland, giving it a run-down, post-apocalyptic appearance. The theater now reads as “Salt Lake Sinema” and appears to be playing a film called Passion of a Mutant before the location was destroyed in the fictional world of the series.
Several images and videos from the shoot have been circulating on social media. One clip shows Goggins removing the heavy prosthetic makeup used to transform him into The Ghoul, thanking the crowd of onlookers who gathered to watch the filming. “Thank you all so much for letting us film in your city and for coming out to say hello,” Goggins told the gathered fans.
The location choice makes sense given where the story left off. At the end of Season 2, The Ghoul was in New Vegas, the city built on the remains of Las Vegas. He had set out toward Colorado in search of his missing wife and daughter. Salt Lake City sits between Nevada and Colorado, making it a natural stop on his journey.
Goggins Confirms Production is Underway
Before the Pomona set footage emerged, Goggins had already confirmed that filming for Season 3 had officially started. On July 7, 2026, the actor shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram showing him in the makeup chair, preparing to transform back into The Ghoul. His caption read: “Back in the saddle… Fallout Season 3”.
The images included a close-up of Goggins having his Ghoul makeup applied, a shot of the character’s signature cowboy boots, and a look at the distinctive belt with a scorpion buckle. The official Fallout and Kilter Films accounts reposted Goggins’ update, providing further confirmation that filming is officially moving forward.
The Ghoul’s Journey Continues
The return of The Ghoul matters because the character is not just another survivor wandering through the wasteland. He is the post-war identity of Cooper Howard, a former Hollywood star whose life before the bombs has remained closely tied to his story in the present day. His search for answers about his past and his family has kept him at the center of the series.
Season 2 ended with The Ghoul finally reaching the management Vault with help from Mr. House. He got the chance to find his wife Barb and daughter Janey, but the cryo pods were empty. He did find a postcard saying “Colorado was a good idea,” which made him believe his family may still be alive. After spending more than two centuries searching for answers, he now heads toward the Rockies to find them.
What Else to Expect from Fallout Season 3
Fallout Season 3 will continue the stories of the show’s central characters following the dramatic Season 2 finale. Alongside Goggins, Ella Purnell will return as Lucy McLean, and Aaron Moten will reprise his role as Maximus.
The upcoming season will also introduce several new faces to the cast. Aaron Paul (known for Breaking Bad) has joined the series. Manny Jacinto (The Acolyte), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) have also been added in recurring roles.
The show was handed an early Season 3 renewal back in May 2025, before the second season had even premiered. Production began in Los Angeles in June 2026.

Prime Video has not yet announced an official release date for Fallout Season 3. However, based on the production schedule, the new season is widely expected to premiere sometime in 2027. The first season dropped in April 2024, and the second season aired in December 2025. With filming now underway, a 2027 release window appears to be the most likely timeline.
