FIFTY FIFTY Excluded from SBS's 'Inkigayo' Amid 'Unanswered Questions' Controversy

FIFTY FIFTY, one of K-pop’s rising girl groups, will not be performing on SBS’s renowned music program ‘Inkigayo’, their agency ATTRAKT confirmed on September 28th. The decision comes in the aftermath of the controversy surrounding SBS’s investigative show ‘Unanswered Questions’ and its portrayal of the group’s legal dispute.

The controversy erupted after ‘Unanswered Questions’ aired a segment on the FIFTY FIFTY case that was met with widespread criticism. The program was accused of providing a biased account, which led to an outcry from viewers and the K-pop industry alike. Although the show issued an apology for its coverage, acknowledging that it had caused discomfort to viewers and lacked complete information, its credibility remained in question.

In a recent interview, ATTRAKT’s CEO Jeon Hong Joon spoke about the damage caused by the broadcast. “Even if variety programs and investigative programs are different,” Jeon remarked, “it doesn’t excuse the harm that was done to ATTRAKT’s reputation. I cannot in good conscience allow FIFTY FIFTY to appear on another SBS show. It’s a matter of dignity, not just business.”

As a result, FIFTY FIFTY will not be participating in future ‘Inkigayo’ performances, despite being in the midst of promotions for their second mini-album ‘Love Tune’ and its lead single “SOS.” The group has, however, continued their promotional efforts on other popular music programs such as Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown,’ KBS’s ‘Music Bank,’ and MBC’s ‘Music Core.’

The SBS controversy has added tension to FIFTY FIFTY’s comeback, as the group strives to maintain its position in a highly competitive industry while navigating both legal battles and media scrutiny.
