The French comedy series Flunked (originally titled Recalé) landed on Netflix on April 23, 2026, bringing viewers a story about a small-time crook turned undercover math teacher. The show stars Alexandre Kominek as Eddy Santozzio, a con artist with a gift for numbers who takes a dangerous assignment to avoid prison. Over eight episodes, viewers watched Eddy try to identify a criminal’s child while pretending to be a teacher at Charles Baudelaire High School. The final episode left many wondering about what happens to Eddy after he drives away from the airport. The ending wraps up some storylines while leaving others completely open.

Why Eddy Runs From the Police

Throughout the season, Eddy believes Detective Lucie (Laurence Arné) will erase his criminal record if he helps catch the drug dealer Anton Sagirov. Lucie promises him freedom and a fresh start. But near the end, Eddy learns the truth. Lucie never planned to erase his charges. Her real offer was just to reduce his sentence from seven years to two years. She used him as a pawn in her investigation without ever being honest about what he would get in return.

Eddy’s mother Patricia figures this out first. She knows French law well enough to understand that her son cannot completely avoid jail time, especially after assaulting a police officer. When Eddy realizes he has been tricked, he makes a choice. Instead of waiting at the airport while police arrest Sagirov, he finds a van and decides to flee. He asks Oceane to shoot off his ankle monitor, and she does. Then he drives away, refusing to accept the reduced sentence Lucie offered.

Who Oceane Really Is

Oceane is one of the students in Eddy’s class. Throughout the investigation, Eddy and Lucie believe one of five students might be Sagirov’s secret child. They collect DNA samples from Sandra, Louise, Theo, Kylian, and Oceane. The test results come back negative for all five. Nobody matches Sagirov’s DNA.

Eddy’s mother provides the answer. She explains that Sagirov’s former lover likely had other relationships while he was away in Russia. When she became pregnant, she told Sagirov the child was his because he was rich and powerful. The truth is that Oceane has no blood connection to the criminal at all. But she has believed her whole life that her father is someone important who pays for her lifestyle.

After Eddy saves Oceane from Sagirov, he tells her to go home. But she refuses. She hides in the back of his van without him knowing. By the time he discovers her, police barricades surround the area. He has no choice but to take her with him as he escapes.

Oceane’s Big Decision

Oceane makes a surprising choice at the end of the series. She already knows Eddy is not her real father. She learned the truth earlier. But she still decides to leave with him. She sees the goodness in Eddy even though he has done bad things. He risked his life to protect her multiple times throughout the season.

The final scene shows Eddy driving his van toward a private Catholic high school. Viewers understand what he plans to do. He will enroll Oceane there so she can continue her education safely. Then he will continue his escape alone. Oceane’s decision to follow Eddy shows that she trusts him more than anyone else in her life. Her mother lied to her about her father. The police used her as bait. Eddy is the only one who treated her like a person.

What This Means for a Possible Season 2

The ending leaves many questions unanswered. Eddy is now a fugitive with Oceane in his care. Lucie succeeded in arresting Sagirov, but her methods damaged her relationships. She neglected her husband and children to focus on the case. Eddy and his former girlfriend Tiphaine (Leslie Medina), the school principal, cannot be together because Eddy must keep running.

If Netflix approves a second season, the story could follow Eddy and Oceane to a new city. Eddy might take on a new identity and perhaps even continue teaching under a different name. Or Lucie could track him down and force him into another undercover operation. The relationship between Eddy and Oceane built on lies would also need resolution. She does not know the full extent of his deceit.
