The mystery town is getting ready to close its doors for good. MGM+ has renewed the hit horror series From for a fifth and final season, giving fans a planned ending to the terrifying story of people trapped in a nightmarish town with no way out. The news arrived just days before the fourth season premiere on April 19, 2026.

The show has become the most-watched series on MGM+, making the decision to end it a careful choice rather than a cancellation. The creators sat down, looked at where the story was going, and decided that five seasons would give the show the right finish.

Why the Creators Chose to End From With Season 5

John Griffin, the creator of From, said the team thought hard about making a sixth season but turned it down for a very honest reason. He told The Hollywood Reporter that extending the show would have been for themselves, not for the story.

“There was a fair amount of soul-searching. But we all came to the realization that if we made that sixth season, it would be for us, because it’s just too hard to say goodbye.” – John Griffin, Creator of From

Griffin also shared that five seasons was always the target from the start. But the team wanted to let the story decide when it was truly time to end. When they finished season three and reached the death of Jim (Eion Bailey), it felt like the end of the beginning part of the show. Season four then felt like the start of the final chapter.

“In full transparency, five seasons was always the goal, but we always wanted to let the story tell us when it was time to end. When we reached the end of season three and the death of Jim, it felt like we reached the end of the beginning. Similarly, season four very naturally feels like the beginning of the end.” – John Griffin

The team also said how rare it is to get to tell a story like this the right way. With full support from Michael Wright and everyone at MGM+, they got to let the story decide its own ending.

What the Final Season Means for Fans Looking for Answers

Jeff Pinkner, the showrunner, promised that viewers will feel respected by how everything ends. He said the ending will feel both surprising and like it had to happen that way. The team is paying close attention to all the questions fans have been asking since the show began in 2022.

“I feel very confident the audience will feel honored and respected by the way these stories end. It’s feeling both surprising and inevitable, and we’re being very mindful about the things the audience is curious about, and all the questions that need to be answered.” – Jeff Pinkner, Showrunner

The creators released a joint statement about their excitement for the final season. They promised that questions will get answered, answers will get questioned, and there will be many tears and scary moments in between.

“We are wildly excited to announce that we’ve officially begun work on Season 5. Which means we will get the chance to see our story to its conclusion. Which means questions will be answered. Answers will be questioned. And there will surely be a cascade of tears and terrors in-between.” – Pinkner, Griffin and Bender

Season 5 Production and Release Timeline

Production for the final season will start later this year in Halifax, Canada, where the show has built its own town called “From Town” specifically for filming.

The fifth season is expected to premiere in 2027. That gives fans plenty of time to enjoy season four first, which comes out on April 19, 2026 on MGM+.

What to Expect From From Season 4 Before the End

Season four will bring the characters closer to the truth than ever before. Griffin said the season actually brings them the full truth, not just closer to it. The town will push back harder than ever to send them down the wrong path.

“This season brings our characters closer to the truth than they ever have been before. In fact, it doesn’t bring them closer. It brings them the truth. We see this place push back harder than it ever has before to direct them down the wrong path.” – John Griffin

The show stars Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens, the town’s sheriff who holds everything together. The cast also includes Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, David Alpay, Elizabeth Saunders, and many others.

From follows a group of people trapped in a town in middle America that no one can leave. At night, terrifying creatures come out of the forest. The residents must survive while searching for answers about where they are and how to escape. The show comes from the creators of Lost, which explains why fans love solving its many mysteries.

The writers room is already working on the final season. Fans can watch season four starting April 19 knowing that the end is planned and the answers are coming.
