The mystery manga Gifted is officially getting an anime adaptation. Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine made the announcement on June 4, 2026. The show will broadcast sometime in 2027. This news comes after the manga already had two successful live-action drama seasons in 2023.
The Gifted manga anime adaptation has been something fans of the detective series have wanted for a long time. The story follows a unique police partnership between a genius detective and a high school boy who can spot murderers just by looking at them. The anime will bring this strange and exciting mystery to life on screen.
The Creative Team Behind the Gifted Manga
Seimaru Amagi writes the story for Gifted. This name is a pen name for Shin Kibayashi, a very famous mystery writer. He helped create The Kindaichi Case Files and Bloody Monday. He also co-created The Drops of God with his sister under the name Tadashi Agi.
Rima Amamiya draws the artwork for the manga. She won a five-month manga audition contest held by Kodansha to get this job. Her art style has received a lot of praise from critics and readers for its dramatic angles and character expressions.
The manga started running in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine in December 2021. It is a shojo magazine, which typically targets young female readers. But the mystery themes have attracted a much wider audience.
What Is Gifted About? The Buddy Cop Mystery Story
Gifted is a fresh take on the buddy cop genre. The story centers on Natsuki Amakusa, a 20-year-old detective working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He has amazing deductive skills, sharp insight, and very strong logical thinking.
One day, he meets Yuya Shiki, a 17-year-old high school student. Yuya walks past a murder scene and casually points out the killer with no effort. This shocks Natsuki, who becomes very interested in this strange teenager.
After some investigation, Natsuki learns that Yuya was born with a special gift. He can identify murderers instantly just by seeing them. Natsuki realizes that his own detective skills combined with Yuya’s gift could solve many difficult cases. The two decide to become partners and work together to solve complex crimes.
“The series follows Natsuki Amakusa, a genius detective with extraordinary deductive reasoning, insight, and logical thinking; and Yลซya Shiki, who was born with the gift to identify murderers. Using their abilities, the two become partners to solve various difficult cases.” – Anime News Network.
The Live-Action Drama Success in 2023
Before the Gifted manga anime adaptation, the series already had a live-action television drama. The first season aired on Tokai TV and Fuji TV in August 2023. The second season followed in October 2023 on Wowow Prime and Wowow on Demand. The show had a total of 16 episodes across both seasons.
The live-action cast included Takahisa Masuda from the group NEWS as Natsuki Amakusa. Hidaka Ukisho played Yuya Shiki. The drama did very well with audiences. This success likely helped push the anime project forward.
Manga Volume 12 Coming Soon
The Gifted manga is still running in Nakayoshi magazine with no breaks. The series has published 11 collected volumes so far. The 12th volume will release on June 12, 2026. This gives the anime production team plenty of source material to work with for the adaptation.
