YoonA’s new horror-comedy movie Pretty Crazy is already making waves at the Korean box office even before its release. The film has outperformed the high-budget movie Omniscient Reader: The Prophet in advance ticket sales, signaling a strong start.

YoonA and Director Lee Sang Geun Reunite After Hit Film “Exit”

Pretty Crazy marks the reunion of YoonA and director Lee Sang Geun, who previously worked together on the 2019 blockbuster Exit. That film attracted over 9.42 million viewers, making it one of the highest-grossing Korean movies that year. Fans and industry experts have high expectations for their new project.

The movie tells the story of Gil Goo (Ahn Bo Hyun), an unemployed man who takes a strange job watching over Seon Ji (YoonA), a woman who transforms into a demon every night. The film blends horror and comedy, with a supporting cast including Sung Dong Il and Joo Hyun Young.

“I wanted to make a clear difference between Seon Ji’s daytime and nighttime personas. For the evil version, I changed my hairstyle, wore colored contact lenses, and adjusted my voice and expressions to show a completely different character,” YoonA shared about her role.

Strong Advance Ticket Sales Before Release

According to the Korean Film Council, Pretty Crazy ranked third in advance ticket sales as of August 1, with a 6.9% booking rate. The movie is set to release on August 13, but it has already surpassed Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, which ranked fourth.

The top two spots were held by My Daughter Is a Zombie and F1: The Movie. Despite tough competition, Pretty Crazy has generated significant buzz due to its unique plot and star power.

Mixed Reactions for “Omniscient Reader: The Prophet”

Meanwhile, Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, a big-budget adaptation of a popular webtoon, has faced criticism for changes to the original story and casting choices. Despite opening at No. 1 at the box office, it saw a 40% drop in attendance on its second day.

The movie needs 6 million admissions to break even, but experts doubt it will reach that number. Fans of the webtoon have expressed disappointment, while new viewers find it entertaining.

“This isn’t Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. This is a cash grab with famous faces slapped on top of a rewritten mess. They clearly didn’t care about the story,” one fan commented online.

High Expectations for YoonA’s Film

With early ticket sales looking strong, Pretty Crazy could become one of the summer’s biggest hits. YoonA’s chemistry with co-star Ahn Bo Hyun and veteran actor Sung Dong Il has already drawn positive reactions from fans.

“YoonA’s comedy is so underrated—this looks hilarious. Director Lee Sang Geun and YoonA are back? Instant ticket purchase!” one fan wrote after seeing the trailer.

The film’s press screening on August 6 will likely influence its final box office performance. If the positive buzz continues, Pretty Crazy could follow in the footsteps of Exit and become another major success for YoonA.
