In an exclusive interview, Gyeongseong Creature 2 stars Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee shared their thoughts on reprising their roles in the highly anticipated second season of the Netflix thriller. As the show delves into a world of darkness, set against the backdrop of a liberated but haunted Seoul, the actors spoke about their excitement, challenges, and some surprising desires for playing new characters.
A Dark Return: The Story So Far
The second season of Gyeongseong Creature picks up from where the first left off, but in a modern-day Seoul, formerly known as Gyeongseong during the Japanese occupation. Although the country is free from external rule, internal threats in the form of terrifying human experiments loom larger than ever.
The core of the story revolves around Yoon Chae Ok (played by Han So Hee), who still mourns her lover Jang Tae Sang. He was believed to be dead, but shockingly returns, alive yet different, bearing the new identity of Jang Ho Jae (Park Seo Joon). As the two characters confront creatures shaped by human cruelty, the burning question remains—can their love survive amid the horrors they face?
Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee on Their Dream Roles
During the interview, both actors candidly shared their wishes to explore new kinds of roles—ones that may surprise their fans.
Park Seo Joon, known for his charismatic protagonist roles, expressed his unusual desire to portray one of the antagonists. “I’d love to try my hand at playing the leader of the Kurokos,” Park admitted, referring to a species of monstrous creatures terrorizing the protagonists in Season 2. The role, currently played by actor Lee Mu Saeng, fascinated Park, especially for its subtle portrayal of evil. However, if not the leader, Park added that he wouldn’t mind playing Kuroko No. 4, a terrifying creature known for its unpredictable and chaotic nature. His lighthearted comment sparked laughter from Han So Hee, who jokingly questioned his eagerness to be the villain.
Han So Hee, whose action-packed role has won her widespread admiration, also revealed her own desire to play something more sinister. She mentioned Seungjo, a character portrayed by Bae Hyun Sung, as a role she would have loved to tackle. In the story, Seungjo’s ability to unleash grotesque tentacles from his arms is a skill that Han So Hee, despite her character’s fierce nature, found fascinating. “I think it would have been fun to play a character with such raw, terrifying power,” she said, hinting at her passion for action-heavy roles.
Treasures of Geumokdang: What the Actors Hold Dear
The interview also turned towards the mysterious Geumokdang, the treasured pawnshop that features heavily in the series. Home to some of the most extravagant and mystical items, Geumokdang acts as a key location for the show’s storyline.
When asked about what personal items they’d consider as their own “treasures” if placed in Geumokdang, Park Seo Joon shared a heartwarming response. “My memories,” he said, “would be my most valued possession. They’re priceless, and although they can’t be bought or sold, they can certainly be shared.” His sentimentality was met with agreement by Han So Hee, though her own answer leaned more towards the material. She admitted that the exquisite paintings at Geumokdang left a lasting impression on her, saying she coveted them for their beauty and historical significance.
A Thrilling New Season
As Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 begins streaming on Netflix, fans can expect more gripping action, emotional depth, and shocking twists. With seven episodes, this season promises to deliver an intense, action-filled ride for viewers as Seo Joon and So Hee navigate love, loss, and the fight against a growing evil.
