Adult Swim has made a confident commitment to one of its newest hits, renewing the animated series Haha, You Clowns for both a second and third season. The surprise two-season order was announced on December 18, 2025, just days before the show’s first-season finale. This major renewal signals strong network faith in creator Joe Cappa’s unique blend of awkward comedy and genuine family warmth.
The series, which started as a set of viral online shorts, follows the Campbell family: three devoted teenage brothers and their widowed father, Tom, as they support each other through daily life after a loss. The show has been praised for its “radically heartfelt” tone, standing out from more cynical adult animation.
The Renewal Announcement and Official Reactions
The network’s president, Michael Ouweleen, linked the renewal directly to viewer support in a public statement. He said the showโs success was proof that audiences connected with its positive message in a challenging time.
โItโs amazing that Joe and the team made something as radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny as Haha, You Clowns,โ said Michael Ouweleen. โBut whatโs even more amazing is that โ in this cynical, uncertain time โ all of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons. In the words of the show: โYou are strong! You are loved!โโ
Series creator Joe Cappa, who voices the four main Campbell characters, expressed his excitement and gratitude.
โIโm so grateful to the fans of the show who gave Haha, You Clowns a chance and spread the word,โ said Joe Cappa. โIโm incredibly thrilled I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer.โ
What Haha, You Clowns Is About
Haha, You Clowns centers on a single father, Tom Campbell, a local TV weatherman, and his three sons: Preston, Tristan, and Duncan. The brothers are tall, muscular teenagers known for their middle-part haircuts and deep care for their dad. Together, they navigate ordinary life, finding humor and their mother’s spirit in everyday situations like movie nights, plane trips, and birthday parties.
The show’s humor comes from its sincere take on family dynamics, mixed with its intentionally crude and disproportionate animation style. Cappa has said he wanted the animation to look as if a live-action director with limited drawing skills was trying to make a cartoon.
From Online Shorts to a Two-Season Order
The path to this double renewal began on the internet. Joe Cappa first gained attention creating animated comedy videos on YouTube and social media. One of his TikToks, a parody called โGabagoblins,โ went viral in 2022, catching the eye of Adult Swim producers.
He then created several short episodes featuring the Campbell family for the Adult Swim Smalls digital program. These shorts were successful enough for the network to order a full, 10-episode television season, which premiered on October 19, 2025. The rapid jump from a digital short series to a multi-season TV show is a notable success story for the network’s development model.
The Creative Team Behind the Show
Joe Cappa is the driving creative force, serving as the series creator, writer, and lead voice actor. He voices the father, Tom, and all three Campbell brothers. The rest of the first season is co-written with his brother, Dave Cappa. The show is loosely based on the Cappa brothers’ own relationship with their father.
The voice cast also includes Kirsten Cappa (Joe’s wife), who voices several female characters, and features guest stars like June Squibb, Cheri Oteri, Eric Wareheim, and Sean Astin. The music is composed by guitarist Delicate Steve, who provides a soundtrack inspired by 1990s sitcoms. The series is produced in-house by Adult Swim’s Williams Street studio.
