What Is Half Man About

Half Man tells the story of Ruben (played by Richard Gadd) and Niall (played by Jamie Bell). They are not blood-related brothers, but they grew up together as if they were family. The story jumps between the 1980s and the present day, showing how their friendship fell apart over three decades.

Younger versions of the characters are played by Mitchell Robertson (young Niall) and Stuart Campbell (young Ruben).

The official description says the show starts when Ruben shows up at Niall’s wedding. His strange behavior leads to a violent fight, and then the story goes back in time to explain how they got to that point. The series looks at male anger, broken friendships, and how hard it is to fix things after a big fight.

Where to Stream Half Man

Half Man is a co-production between HBO and the BBC. Here is where you can watch it based on your location:

  • United States: HBO and HBO Max
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: BBC iPlayer, BBC One, and BBC Scotland
  • Latin America: HBO Max starting April 24
  • Europe: HBO Max starting April 25

The show is only available on these official platforms. New episodes drop weekly instead of all at once, so viewers have to wait seven days between each episode.

Why the Weekly Release Schedule Matters

Unlike many streaming shows that release full seasons at once, Half Man comes out one episode per week. This gives audiences time to talk about each episode, share theories, and build excitement for the next one. It also matches how HBO traditionally releases its dramas, like Succession and The Last of Us.

This slower release style works well for character-driven stories. With six episodes total, the show has a tight, focused plot without extra filler scenes.
