It’s all to do with their new track “How Sweet.”
HYBE has been accused of sabotaging NewJeans‘ comeback.
On May 24, NewJeans released their new album and music video for the song “How Sweet.”
Within hours of the song being released, a video became a hot topic online as it shared a snippet of “How Sweet” alongside two other songs, claiming plagiarism and pointing out Min Hee Jin’s claims of plagiarism against groups like ILLIT in the description.
In the video, the user claimed that NewJeans had plagiarized two songs, Midnight Fusic‘s “Summer Love” and Karencitta‘s “F.U.I.L.Y.” When the video was posted, considering it was done so quickly after the song was released, netizens were extremely suspicious, accusing HYBE of trying to sabotage the comeback.
- Is the account owner HYBE?
- Wow, it has only been a few hours, I knew (HYBE) would do something like this.
- The thing that pisses me off even more is that I feel this is a HYBE account acting like a LE SSERAFIM fan, lol.
- I heard Olivia Rodrigo is coming to Korea to receive payment for plagiarizing her.
- It’s not even similar to begin with… For there to even be a debate, the evidence should be as strong as LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT’s own plagiarism. This, however, is the epitome of misinformation, yet you guys are the only ones winding yourselves up.
- Tearnot, f*ck, lol. Are you guys comedians or trying to be serious? LOL.
- Si Hyuk…
- You guys are trying hard, lol but do you think this will work? LOL.
- Have you guys even settled your own plagiarism cases? Huh, Si Hyuk-Kun who is bloated from his own ego?!?!
- According to your logic, you are saying that the other two songs in this video plagiarized each other, am I right?
- This is why HYBE only made 2900000000 last year. Pathetic HYBE.
- So an account with 0 videos made this in one hour of the song’s release, huh. That isn’t suspicious at all.
- Are you promoting NewJeans even when HYBE isn’t? Thank you.
Netizens also hit back that if NewJeans plagiarized the song, then the two songs used plagiarized each other due to the similarities between all three.
It also seemed suspicious to some fans that the YouTube account only had one video, which was about NewJeans’ plagiarism and it didn’t go amiss that the account was called “tearnot” which seemed similar to LE SSERAFIM’s fandom name “FearNot.”
The banner for the channel also seemed ominous, as it seemingly linked to past issues surrounding plagiarism, which has been a huge part of the feud between ADOR and HYBE.
How does it feel now that it has happened to you?
I have tears
No, that’s not enough, you need to cry blood.
It is common for songs to sample similar parts of tracks, and it’s common even in K-pop. Yet, with everything going on between ADOR and HYBE, it’s not surprising that it’s becoming even more of a hot topic.
