South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, known for her roles in various popular dramas, recently shared her thoughts on the nickname TaeHyeJi, which groups her with fellow actresses Kim Tae Hee and Jun Ji Hyun. She also discussed her approach to acting and her upcoming projects.
Song Hye Kyo’s Thoughts on TaeHyeJi
On January 21, 2025, Song Hye Kyo attended a press conference for her upcoming movie, Dark Nuns. During the event, she addressed the nickname TaeHyeJi, which was coined in the early 2000s to refer to Song Hye Kyo, Kim Tae Hee, and Jun Ji Hyun, acknowledging their beauty and acting talent.
Song Hye Kyo expressed her appreciation for the nickname, stating, “I liked it.” She also expressed her admiration for Kim Tae Hee and Jun Ji Hyun. However, she believes it is now time for the next generation of actors to receive recognition. Her response was considered humble and thoughtful.
Prioritizing Character Depth over Appearance
Song Hye Kyo also discussed her recent acting choices, explaining that she now focuses more on the depth of her characters rather than her appearance. She mentioned The Glory as an example, noting that no reflectors were used on set to maintain the project’s tone. She felt this approach was more suitable for the role and the story. She said that while the staff ensured everything was well-executed, the lack of focus on enhancing her looks was a deliberate choice that served the narrative better.
Upcoming Projects: Dark Nuns and Slowly and Intensely
Dark Nuns is the second installment following the 2015 movie The Priests, which starred Kang Dong Won. In Dark Nuns, Song Hye Kyo plays Sister Junia, alongside Jeon Yeo Been as Sister Michaela, Lee Jin Wook as Father Paolo, and Moon Woo Jin as Hee Joon. The film is scheduled for release on January 24, 2025. The movie is about two nuns trying to save a boy who is possessed by an evil spirit.
In addition to Dark Nuns, Song Hye Kyo is also filming the K-drama Slowly and Intensely with Gong Yoo. Written by Noh Hee Kyung, the series is a period drama set after the Korean War, depicting the world of show business and its rapid growth during that time.
