Episode 4, titled simply “Episode 4,” picks up right where the previous episode left off. David has convinced Hayden (Milo Ventimiglia) to help him, and the FBI is closing in from all sides.

What Happens in Episode 4

The episode opens with a flashback showing Hayden and Rachel (Britt Lower) eight years ago. They were working together on his charity speech, and Hayden admitted that breaking up with Rachel was his biggest mistake. He asked for another chance, but Rachel wanted to stay friends.

In the present, Rachel gets arrested by the FBI. Agent Sarah Greer (Logan Browning) and Agent Max Williams (Chi McBride) question Hilde Winslow (Tara Rosling), the woman who lied on the stand to put David in prison. They quickly figure out that Hilde helped David escape.

David asks Hayden to help get Rachel out of jail. Hayden agrees and uses his connections to post her million-dollar bond. Rachel gets released, but Hayden warns her to stay away from David.

Meanwhile, Lenny Burroughs (Hugh Thompson), David’s father, and Phillip Mackenzie (Peter Outerbridge) discover something big. On the night Matthew disappeared, Cheryl was called to the hospital because of a bus accident. But there was no bus accident that night. The hospital administrator who confirmed the story was Ronald Dreason (Aaron Ashmore), who is now Cheryl’s husband.

Lenny confronts Cheryl at the hospital, but she refuses to believe Ronald lied to her.

The Big Confrontation

Hilde calls Skunk (Billy MacLellan), a fixer for the Fisher crime family, to set up a meeting in a park. David shows up and holds Skunk at gunpoint. Skunk shoots Hilde, and a fight breaks out. Skunk gets shot and runs away, but David catches him.

David tortures Skunk for information about Matthew. Skunk finally tells David to ask his father why the Fishers would take his son. This is the first real clue that David’s father has secrets about what happened to Matthew.

More Clues Surface

The FBI finds Skunk and arrests him. Agent Greer examines Rachel’s photo of a young boy and notices the boy has a birthmark like Matthew. She realizes David might be telling the truth about his son being alive.

Lenny and Phillip meet a former colleague named Gerry (Tammy Isbell). She tells them that Ronald was supposed to testify in a Medicare fraud case involving Nicky Fisher. But Ronald suddenly got cold feet and refused to cooperate. This connection proves Ronald had ties to the Fisher crime family.

Ronald is seen deleting a voicemail from Lenny before Cheryl can hear it. The voicemail contained news about Ronald’s lies from the night Matthew disappeared.

Where the Story Heads Next

Episode 4 ends with a shocking moment. Lenny is looking at case files about Liam Fisher when someone puts a gun to his head. It’s not clear who the attacker is, but the Fisher family connection now points to revenge as a possible motive for everything that happened to Matthew.

The episode also confirms that Hayden is the son of Gertrude Payne (Madeleine Stowe), a wealthy woman who has been keeping tabs on him through a corrupt cop named Stephano (Greg Bryk).

Rachel, David, and Hayden decide to drive to Boston to get answers from Lenny. David wants to know why his father is connected to the Fisher family.
