I Will Find You continues to deliver twists in its fifth episode. The Netflix thriller series, based on Harlan Coben’s 2023 novel, follows David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), a former law professor serving a life sentence for his son Matthew’s murder. After discovering evidence that his son might still be alive, David escapes prison and teams up with his ex-sister-in-law, Rachel Mills (Britt Lower), to uncover the truth.

Episode 5 reveals crucial details about Matthew’s disappearance through a flashback. The episode also shows Rachel forming an alliance with Hayden Payne (Milo Ventimiglia), while David takes extreme measures to locate Nicky Fisher (Clancy Brown).

The Geneva Flashback Reveals Matthew’s Possible Connection to a Missing Boy

The episode starts five years in the past at a crime scene in Geneva, Switzerland. Detective Muller discovers a young boy named Martin Bischof hiding at the scene of his parents’ murder. Muller takes Martin to an orphanage, but the boy later disappears from the facility.

In the present day, Muller receives information about Matthew’s disappearance. He notices that Martin and Matthew have similar physical descriptions. The orphanage where Martin stayed was run by a family from Boston. This connection suggests the same people might be responsible for both disappearances.

The flashback adds a new layer to the mystery. It hints that Matthew’s kidnapping might be part of a larger pattern. David’s quest to find his son now connects to a cold case from Switzerland.

Rachel Teams Up With Hayden While David Searches for Lenny

Rachel and David continue their search for Lenny Burroughs (Hugh Thompson), David’s father. Lenny has been missing since the previous episode, when an unknown gunman took him at gunpoint. The duo uses underground tunnels to reach Lenny’s house, avoiding the police.

Sophie Burroughs (Kate Vernon), Lenny’s sister, reveals that Lenny has colon cancer. She also tells them that Lenny went to confront Ronald Dreason (Aaron Ashmore) about lying about a bus accident on the night Matthew disappeared. Ronald had called Cheryl to the hospital with a false report. This gave Ronald an alibi for that night.

David finds a file on Liam Fisher, Nicky’s son, at Lenny’s house. Lenny and Philip Mackenzie (Peter Outerbridge) arrested Liam for murder in 2016. Liam died in prison three months later. This gives Nicky a strong motive for revenge against both families.

The FBI closes in on Lenny’s house. Williams and Greer question Sophie, who lies to protect David. She gets arrested for obstruction.

Rachel Gets Help From Hayden After a Major Betrayal

Rachel’s old editor Jim Doherty publishes a story about David being in Boston. This betrayal puts David and Rachel in more danger. The FBI learns about David’s location from the newspaper.

Rachel reaches out to Hayden for help. Hayden, the billionaire heir, admits he still cares about Rachel despite their past. He warns her that Gertrude Payne (Madeleine Stowe), his powerful mother, has filed a police report. Gertrude’s report claims Rachel and David stole Hayden’s gun, which the FBI found in Washington Square Park.

Hayden is asked to provide security footage from his apartment. He deletes the footage instead, showing his loyalty to Rachel. He tells her that someone is still on her side.

“Hayden is forced to pick a side.”

Ronald Confesses His Lie to Cheryl and Rachel

Rachel confronts Ronald and Cheryl about the bus accident lie. Ronald admits he made up the accident because he had a crush on Cheryl. He wanted to spend time with her on that night.

Ronald claims his lie had nothing to do with Matthew’s disappearance. Rachel believes him. Cheryl feels overwhelmed with guilt. She thinks she could have saved Matthew if she had gone home instead of staying for coffee with Ronald.

Rachel decides to share the Six Flags photo with Cheryl. The photo shows Matthew alive, identifiable by a birthmark on his face. Cheryl finally has hope that her son might still be alive.

Rachel notices the date on the Six Flags photograph. The Payne family’s company had rented out the entire park that day. She calls Hayden to share this new development. Hayden agrees to help her find corporate photos from that event.

David’s Plan to Find Nicky Fisher Takes a Dangerous Turn

David becomes desperate to find Nicky Fisher. He teams up with Adam Mackenzie (Jonathan Tucker), his friend and Philip’s son. Adam suggests they find Nicky’s daughter, Lena Fisher (Anna Hopkins), but warns against using her as bait.

David ignores Adam’s advice and confronts Lena at gunpoint. He forces her to call her father. Nicky tells David to put the gun down. Suddenly, Kyle “Skunk” Bergin (Billy MacLellan) and his men surround David. Lena tases David, and he falls unconscious.

Adam arrives and tells Skunk there has been a change of plans. Adam reveals he has been working for Nicky Fisher the entire time. The betrayal cuts deep for David, who trusted his friend.

Adam and Skunk take David to a private airfield. The FBI follows them, hoping to capture David. A gunfight breaks out between the agents and Skunk’s men. Skunk shoots Williams, and Greer shoots Skunk in return.

David and Adam escape on Fisher’s plane. David wakes up in Key West, Florida. Nicky Fisher greets him with a punch to the face. The episode ends with David alone and captured by his enemy.

I Will Find You is streaming now on Netflix. The series consists of eight episodes.
