Netflix dropped the official trailer for Ikka, an upcoming courtroom drama that brings together Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna after 27 years. The film marks Sunny Deol’s first direct-to-streaming release and his return to the lawyer role 33 years after Damini.

The trailer shows Sunny Deol playing Arjun Mehra, a respected lawyer known for fighting for justice, not just for winning cases. Akshaye Khanna plays Shauryamann Gaur, a businessman accused of attempted murder who hires Mehra to defend him. The two characters share a past connection that adds personal stakes to the legal battle.

Sunny Deol Calls Ikka a Story About Family and Hard Choices

Speaking about the film at the trailer launch, Sunny Deol explained why he connected with the project. He said it goes beyond typical courtroom dramas and focuses on relationships and difficult life decisions.

“IKKA is not just a courtroom drama. It is a story about family, relationships, and the difficult choices life forces you to make. Arjun is a man who believes in doing what is right, but circumstances push him to question everything around him. His pain, his anger, his silence, and his fight for what he believes in are what drew me to this character,” Sunny Deol said.

The actor also shared his happiness about reaching global audiences through Netflix. “This film is also very special because it marks my first direct-to-streaming release. I’m happy that through Netflix, audiences across India and the world will be able to experience IKKA,” he added.

Akshaye Khanna Sends Mysterious Message Instead of Attending Launch

Akshaye Khanna did not attend the trailer launch in Mumbai. Instead, he sent a voice message for the media and fans that matched his character’s mysterious nature in the film.

“Kuch mulaqatein stage par nahi ho sakti. Agar ho gayi, to zalzalaa aa sakta hai! Isiliye IKKA aur main ab sirf Netflix ki screen par milenge, 10 July ko. Taiyaar rehna (Some meetings cannot happen on stage, they might cause a lot of trouble. That is why we will meet on Netflix on July 10. Stay prepared),” Akshaye Khanna said.

At the trailer launch event, Sunny Deol praised his co-star and spoke about their bond since working together on Border in 1997. He called Akshaye a “gem of a guy” and said his recent success with Dhurandhar was well deserved.

“It is high time. You never know what time has in store for you. You just have to keep working, never give up, and keep at it. Akshaye did exactly that. He is flying high now, and he deserves it and much more,” Sunny Deol said about Akshaye Khanna’s career.

What the Ikka Trailer Shows About the Courtroom Battle

The trailer opens with Akshaye Khanna’s character being charged in a murder case. Sunny Deol’s character is shown as an unbeatable lawyer who takes cases based on what he believes is right, not for money or fame.

The plot takes an interesting turn when the two men strike a deal. While the trailer does not reveal all the details, it shows a “life for a life” agreement between them. The case becomes more complicated when Tillotama Shome’s character enters as the prosecuting lawyer. She was once a student under Sunny Deol’s character, which adds a personal angle to the legal fight.

Dia Mirza plays Avantika, Arjun Mehra’s wife. Her character struggles to keep her family together as the case brings increasing pressure on their lives. The trailer hints that the courtroom battle affects not just the accused but everyone connected to the case.

The Cast and Crew Behind Ikka

Siddharth P. Malhotra directs Ikka, with the story written by Althea Kaushal and Mayank Tewari. The film is produced by Alchemy Films.

The film brings together a strong ensemble cast including:

  • Dia Mirza as Avantika, Arjun’s wife
  • Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor in supporting roles

Director Siddharth P. Malhotra shared how the project came together. He revealed that when Sunny Deol asked who he wanted to play Shauryamann Gaur, he immediately said Akshaye Khanna. At that time, Khanna had not yet starred in Dhurandhar.

“I gave Akshaye the script and, in record time, he said yes. Within the same week, he signed the contract,” Malhotra said about casting Khanna.

The director also spoke about balancing expectations while making the film. He described the challenge of working with two legendary actors while staying true to the characters and the story.

Sunny Deol’s Return to Courtroom Role After 33 Years

Sunny Deol playing a lawyer in Ikka has created special interest among fans. His role in Damini (1993) as the lawyer who fights for justice is still remembered by audiences. After 33 years, he returns to the courtroom in a black coat.

This reunion with Akshaye Khanna is also significant. The two actors last appeared together in the 1997 war film Border. They also worked on Dillagi in 1999. Director Malhotra said he was a huge fan of Sunny Deol’s work and wanted to bring him back as a lawyer.
