The final season of The Boys is now streaming, and two of its biggest stars are looking back at their journey. Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell) and Erin Moriarty (Annie January/Starlight) have worked side by side for almost ten years. As the show drops its last episodes on Prime Video, the pair opened up about their real-life bond and what it meant to grow up on this set together.
The first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 arrived on April 8, 2026. The season will run for eight episodes total, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday until the finale on May 20, 2026. For viewers around the world, this is the end of the road for the violent, funny, and sharp-edged superhero series. For Quaid and Moriarty, it is also the end of a very personal chapter.
The Audition That Started It All
Quaid recently shared that his very first time reading lines from the show was with Moriarty during a chemistry read. He called her “one of my favorite scene partners” and said she has been a steady presence for him throughout the entire production.
“The very first time I read the words from the show was an audition with you. It was a chemistry read. That was my very first time meeting you in that room. You’ve always been this baseline for me and I just can’t thank you enough.” – Jack Quaid
Moriarty felt the same way about her co-star. She explained that working with Quaid actually taught her how to be a proper scene partner. She joked that he could teach a master class on the subject.
“It’s been such an impactful experience. I had no idea going into it that I would basically be working with someone who would teach me how to be a scene partner. The duo of our characters and the duo of who we are in real life, which is like brother and sister, that comfort level is a mandatory precursor.” – Erin Moriarty
The two actors described their off-screen relationship as being like siblings. That comfort and trust helped them deliver the emotional beats between Hughie and Annie, who have been the romantic center of the show since season one.
Nine Years of Friendship and Chaos
The Boys first premiered in 2019, but Quaid noted that the cast has known each other for roughly nine years when counting production time. That is a long time to spend with any group of coworkers, especially on a show known for its extreme content and messy special effects.
Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, said the cast was very aware this was the final season. He explained that they tried not to take any moment for granted and simply enjoyed being in each other’s company.
Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) added that the group did not want to leave any story ideas unused. He said they wanted to give fans everything they had been waiting for across five seasons.
For Moriarty, the final season felt heavier than the previous ones. The stakes are higher, and the pressure to deliver a satisfying ending for the audience added weight to every scene.
Where Hughie and Annie Stand in Season 5
When the final season begins, Annie is not in a good place. She has been separated from Hughie and the rest of the group. She is leading a resistance movement against Homelander’s regime, but it has cost her a lot. Moriarty described Annie as “hardened” and more detached than before.
Hughie, meanwhile, starts the season locked up in a “Freedom Camp” along with Mother’s Milk and Frenchie. But even in prison, Hughie tries to keep hope alive. Quaid explained that hope is a choice for Hughie, and making that choice every day is actually a rebellious act.
“Hope is a choice, and sometimes the only thing we have is hope, but it’s really hard to make that decision every day, to have hope. And Hughie does it.” – Jack Quaid
The two characters eventually reunite, but the world around them is falling apart. Homelander (Antony Starr) now holds absolute power. Billy Butcher has returned with a virus that can kill all Supes, and he is willing to burn everything down to use it.

The End of an Era for Prime Video’s Biggest Hit
The Boys has been one of Prime Video’s most popular original series since its debut. The show took a satirical and bloody look at superhero culture, with Antony Starr’s Homelander becoming one of television’s most terrifying villains.
The final season picks up after the events of season four. Homelander has taken full control of the country. Dissenters are sent to “Freedom Camps.” Butcher is dying and more unstable than ever. The remaining members of The Boys are scattered, but they must come together one last time to try to save the world.
Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, announced that season five would be the end back in June 2024. He explained that five seasons felt like the right length to tell the story without wearing out the welcome.
The first two episodes are already getting strong reviews. The season holds a 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes as of April 2026.
