Filmmaker James Cameron, known for movies such as “Titanic”, “The Terminator”, and the “Avatar” series, will co-write the script for a movie based on Joe Abercrombie’s popular novel “The Devils”. Cameron shared this news on his Facebook page. He stated that he has admired Abercrombie’s work for many years.

Cameron will start working on this project after he finishes his next film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. This movie is the third part of the “Avatar” series.

A New Cinematic Journey for Cameron

James Cameron expressed his long-standing appreciation for Joe Abercrombie’s writing. He mentioned enjoying Abercrombie’s “First Law” books, specifically naming “Best Served Cold” and the “Age of Madness” trilogy. However, it was the unique world and characters in “The Devils” that prompted him to buy the rights and work with Abercrombie to adapt it for the screen.

Cameron is looking forward to the writing process with Abercrombie. He believes the adaptation will be straightforward because Joe Abercrombie’s writing is very visual, almost like scenes, and has a strong cinematic structure. He is eager to begin this new project once his work on “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is complete, viewing it as an exciting new challenge to bring these memorable characters to life.

The Story of ‘The Devils’

“The Devils” book takes place in an alternate version of medieval Europe. The story focuses on a threat of an upcoming invasion by elves. These elves are described as being hungry for human flesh. The novel presents a dark and imaginative world with its own unique challenges and dangers.

Abercrombie’s Thoughts on the Collaboration

Joe Abercrombie also shared his excitement about the collaboration. He believes that James Cameron is the best person to bring his story to the screen. Abercrombie noted that Cameron has been entertaining audiences for over forty years by making impossible things appear real on film.

Abercrombie further commented that Cameron has a unique ability to balance incredible action and grand visuals with deep personal stakes and storytelling. He stated that no one else can do this as well as Cameron. Abercrombie concluded by saying he could not think of anyone better to adapt his “weird and wonderful monster of a book” for the screen.

Cameron’s Upcoming Release
