Behind-the-Scenes Look at “Firefighters”
The upcoming film “Firefighters”, directed by Kwak Kyung Taek, has released behind-the-scenes footage showing the intense effort and professionalism of the cast and crew ahead of its December 4 premiere.
The movie recounts the real-life 2001 Hongje fire disaster, focusing on the firefighters from the Western Fire Station who risked their lives to extinguish the fire and save victims. The film aims to capture the emotional and physical challenges faced by these unsung heroes.
Authenticity Through Realistic Set and Training
The production team meticulously recreated the fire scene by repeatedly igniting and extinguishing flames on set. Director Kwak Kyung Taek emphasized his purpose, stating:
“Our people feel apologetic toward firefighters, and I wanted to tell that story.”
The dedication of the cast was evident in their preparations. Before filming, actors completed weeks of rigorous firefighting training to ensure their performances were realistic.

Joo Won, portraying a key firefighter role, reflected on his emotional connection to the story, saying:
“I remember reading the script with all my heart.”
Meanwhile, Lee Jun Hyuk expressed admiration for real-life firefighters:
“I’m naturally afraid of fire, so I have deep respect for those who have overcome that fear.”
The cast, including Jang Young Nam, demonstrated their commitment by delivering intense performances in challenging conditions.
