Adam Mondschein, the actor who played the OB-GYN in It Ends With Us, has publicly challenged Blake Lively’s allegations about filming the movie’s birth scene. In her 2024 lawsuit against director and co-star Justin Baldoni, Lively described the environment as “chaotic” and claimed she was pressured into partial nudity without proper safeguards. Mondschein, however, insists his experience was “entirely professional” and contradicts her account.
“My experience working with her is very different than the one she described in her lawsuit. Indeed, I was surprised to read her description of the scene,” Mondschein told Page Six . He emphasized that Lively’s costume included “a full hospital gown, black shorts, and torso-covering prosthetic” and that she “never complained or expressed discomfort” during filming .
Lively’s lawsuit alleges Baldoni insisted she simulate nudity for the birthing scene, arguing it was “not normal” for women to wear gowns during labor. She claimed the set remained open to non-essential crew while she was partially nude, a detail Mondschein disputes.
Legal Battle Escalates
The dispute is part of a broader legal clash between Lively and Baldoni. Lively filed a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit in December 2024, accusing Baldoni of creating an unsafe work environment. Baldoni countersued for defamation and extortion, calling her claims “dishonest” and releasing behind-the-scenes footage to refute allegations of misconduct .
A source close to Lively said she was “extremely uncomfortable” upon learning Mondschein, whom she described as Baldoni’s “best friend,” was cast in the intimate role. “Out of all the actors that could have been chosen, they think it was perfectly fine to have his best friend play that role,” the source added .
Mondschein defended his casting, stating he was a “local hire” from New York and covered his own expenses for the job. He also criticized Lively’s implications about his qualifications, calling them “offensive” and pointing to his acting credentials, including a master’s degree from UCLA and prior roles in shows like Arrested Development .
Trial Set for 2026
The case is scheduled for trial in March 2026, and Mondschein has stated he is willing to testify. “If I’m called to testify in the case, I will answer truthfully,” he said, adding he would clarify that Lively was not “nearly nude” during filming .
Baldoni’s legal team has argued that footage from the set disproves Lively’s claims of chaos, noting only essential crew were present. Meanwhile, Lively’s lawyers have called Baldoni’s countersuit “meritless” and accused him of retaliating against her for speaking out .
Background on the Film’s Controversy
It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, became a box office hit in August 2024. However, its success has been overshadowed by the legal feud. Lively’s lawsuit also alleges Baldoni invaded her privacy by walking in on her breastfeeding, a claim he denies, citing text messages where she allegedly invited him to her trailer while pumping .
The case has drawn attention to industry standards for filming intimate scenes, with Lively’s team criticizing the lack of an intimacy coordinator or nudity rider during the birth scene. Baldoni’s camp maintains that standard protocols were followed .
