Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, was one of the most anticipated films of 2023, featuring Kriti Sanon and Prabhas in lead roles. However, the film, which aimed to be a grand retelling of the epic Ramayana, faced harsh criticism and ultimately failed at the box office. In a recent interview, Kriti Sanon opened up about the disappointment surrounding the film’s reception and how she handled the aftermath of its failure.
Kriti Sanon Addresses the Backlash and Criticism
Kriti Sanon portrayed Sita in Adipurush, alongside Prabhas, who played Lord Ram. Despite the high expectations, the film was met with widespread criticism for its visual effects, dialogues, and perceived insensitivity towards religious sentiments. Speaking to Filmfare in her first detailed interview on the matter, Kriti shared her emotional journey following the film’s release.
Kriti expressed the deep sadness she felt when Adipurush did not resonate with audiences as expected. She stated, “You feel a deep sadness and might even find yourself in tears, wondering what went wrong.” She emphasized that the intention behind the film was never to hurt anyone’s feelings and that the team had positive intentions throughout the project.
Despite the backlash, Kriti remains focused on learning from the experience. She acknowledged that not all aspects of a film’s production are within an actor’s control, saying, “The goal is never to hurt anyone’s feelings; the intention behind every project is always positive. However, we must face the reality that sometimes things just don’t click, and it’s crucial to learn from these experiences.”
Coping with Failure and Moving Forward
Kriti Sanon also discussed how she copes with the disappointment that comes with a film’s failure. She noted that as an actor, many variables are beyond her control. However, she remains committed to putting in the effort and focusing on future projects. She explained, “There are many variables beyond my control, but I strive to ensure that I fulfill my role to the best of my ability.”
When it comes to criticism, Kriti emphasized the importance of distinguishing between constructive feedback and negative comments driven by frustration. She shared that her family plays a crucial role in providing honest and helpful feedback after watching her films. According to Kriti, constructive criticism is beneficial, but she doesn’t allow it to affect her deeply.
Kriti’s ability to stay focused and continue working on her craft is evident in her recent projects. She was last seen in the films Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, both of which performed well at the box office.
The Downfall of Adipurush: A High-Budget Project That Missed the Mark
Adipurush was initially praised for its ambitious attempt to retell the Ramayana on a grand scale. However, the film’s release was met with significant criticism, particularly for its subpar visual effects, lackluster graphics, and mediocre dialogues. The plot, which many viewers found lacking in depth, further contributed to the film’s disappointing reception.
The backlash against Adipurush was so intense that the filmmakers made adjustments to some of the dialogues after the film’s release. However, these changes were not enough to salvage the movie’s reputation, and it continued to face extensive trolling and negative reviews.
Despite its high budget and star-studded cast, Adipurush failed to deliver on its promises, leaving both fans and critics disappointed. The film’s inability to connect with its audience highlights the importance of balancing grand ambitions with solid execution in filmmaking.
