In a recent episode of the YouTube program ‘Zip Daesung’, Lisa from BLACKPINK made a guest appearance. She joined Daesung from Big Bang, her senior from YG Entertainment. During their meeting, they talked about various topics. These included Lisa’s solo album called ‘Alter Ego‘ and the costs of running her own label. Lisa also made a surprising reveal. She admitted that she feels more at ease speaking Korean compared to English.
Praise for Solo Album
During their conversation, Daesung spoke about Lisa’s song “Born Again” which features Doja Cat and RAYE.1 He complimented her, saying, “The rhythm was absolutely killer.” Lisa responded with gratitude and shared her personal connection to the track. “Thank you. I also love this song,” she said. She added that she enjoys listening to her album while traveling by air. “Every time I fly, I just listen to it from start to finish.“
Artist’s Listening Habits
Daesung found it interesting that Lisa listens to her own music after it is released. He mentioned his own habits, “That means it must be a really good album. To be honest, once I release my music, I don’t really listen to it.” He explained that he listens to his songs a lot during the production process. “I listen to it so much during working on it and monitoring… honestly, I still feel a little shy hearing my own voice in the album.” He then joked about feeling self-absorbed when hearing his own music, using the English word “narcissist“. “I feel like it might make me look like a narcissist,” Daesung said.
Language Comfort Levels
After Daesung used the word “narcissist“, Lisa confessed that she was not familiar with its meaning. “I feel like people are using that word a lot these days. But I don’t actually know what that means,” she admitted. Daesung was surprised because he knew Lisa is fluent in English. “Lisa, (but) you’re really good at English,” he commented. Lisa then clarified her comfort level with different languages. “I’m not as good at English as I am at Korean,” she explained.
Korean Over English
Lisa further detailed that her most comfortable language is Thai. Following Thai, Korean is her next most comfortable language, and then comes English. “Korean is more comfortable for me. When I do English interviews, I think of it in Korean first and then answer in English,” Lisa revealed. Daesung was taken aback by this revelation. He asked in shock, “It’s Korean first?” Lisa confidently confirmed, “Yes.” This showed that despite being proficient in English, Lisa naturally thinks and processes in Korean before speaking English, highlighting her deep connection with the Korean language.
