The announcement of the Lollapalooza India 2027 lineup has created a major split among music fans online. While the festival brings a mix of big international names and homegrown talent, many social media users have expressed disappointment with this year’s selection. Singer Benny Dayal has now joined the conversation, asking a simple but powerful question: why are people not showing the same excitement for Indian artists?
The fifth edition of the festival is set to take place on January 23 and 24, 2027, at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The two-day event will feature performances across four stages, spanning genres like pop, rock, electronic, hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Indian independent music.
International Headliners and Debuts
Olivia Dean and Limp Bizkit will headline the 2027 edition. Dean, who won Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards, will perform tracks including Messy, Dive, and Man I Need. Limp Bizkit will make their India debut, bringing their nu-metal catalogue with songs like Break Stuff, Rollin’, and Nookie.
The international lineup also includes KATSEYE, Fontaines D.C., 5 Seconds of Summer, six-time Grammy winner St. Vincent, and Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello. KATSEYE, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Olivia Dean are all set to perform in India for the first time. Japanese electronic artist Yousuke Yukimatsu and Belgian DJ duo 2manydjs are also part of the roster.
Indian Artists on the Bill
The Indian lineup features a mix of established names and emerging artists. Aditya Gadhvi, Anuv Jain, Indian Ocean, Blackstratblues, Kayan, Rhea Raj, Yashraj, Swadesi, Varijashree Venugopal, and Donn Bhat are among those set to perform. A special collaboration will see Stewart Copeland of The Police join three-time Grammy winner and Padma Shri recipient Ricky Kej. The Manganiyar Seduction will bring Rajasthan’s traditional musical heritage to the festival.
Fans Call It the ‘Worst Lineup of All Time’
Soon after the announcement, social media filled with sharply different reactions. Some fans called the lineup underwhelming compared with previous editions. One user wrote, “Worst lineup of all time delete it alr,” while another commented, “Fell off so hard since last years lineup”. Others called the lineup a “chaotic mess” and questioned some of the international acts announced this time.
However, the backlash was not directed at the same issue for everyone. Some fans pointed towards high ticket prices and festival management, while others felt the Indian artists deserved better billing and performance slots. The discussion has since widened into a larger conversation about representation, ticket prices, and the way local musicians are positioned at major international festivals.
Benny Dayal: ‘What About the Indian Acts?’
Amid the debate, Benny Dayal addressed the criticism in an Instagram video. He asked fans why Indian acts were not receiving the same excitement as international performers.
“I just want to say one thing. What about the Indian acts? Why aren’t you excited for them? Their success, their time. On this festival, it’s an international festival, it’s an international brand. Give them a chance, right? Support them. This is exactly why Indians, Indian artists don’t grow. So please, please take the time to check out our Indian artist music, push them music on streaming on social media platforms, and buy tickets to go watch them. Please help them grow.”
In the caption of his post, he wrote, “Support Indian independent artists more! Be proud of our artists! It’s their big moment too! Personal opinion! (I won’t care for your backlash.)”
Lisa Mishra Weighs In on Promoter Responsibility
Musician and actress Lisa Mishra responded to Dayal’s post in the comments section. She argued that promoters also have a responsibility to give Indian artists greater visibility.
“To be fair- massive indian artists are buried in the fine print well below foreign artists with 1/10th of their listenership. The onus is on promoters to show that support too- goes hand in hand. There is no support from top down it’s wild.”
Her comment pointed out that some popular local names were placed far below international performers on the billing. This reflects a broader question around Lollapalooza India: whether audiences need to support Indian acts more or whether festivals themselves need to give those artists a more prominent platform.

The festival will feature more than 40 performances across four stages. Early Bird tickets have already sold out, while general ticket sales have now begun in phases through the official Lollapalooza India website. Tickets are also available through BookMyShow, with General Access, Lolla Comfort, VIP, and Platinum categories available subject to availability.
The 2026 edition drew the festival’s largest crowds so far, with Linkin Park’s Mumbai performance becoming the biggest single-performance audience since the India edition began in 2023.
