New photos from New York confirm a full Defenders reunion as Mike Colter and Finn Jones join Krysten Ritter on location for the upcoming season.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bringing back two more of its street-level heroes. Set photos from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 show Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, filming scenes in New York City alongside Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones.

The photos surfaced online in early April 2026 as production began on the third season. Colter and Jones were spotted on location in Brooklyn with Ritter, who already returned as Jessica Jones in Season 2. The three actors were photographed together in casual clothing, with robes covering their costumes.

All Four Defenders Reunite For The First Time Since 2017

This marks the first time all four original Defenders will share the screen together since Netflix’s The Defenders crossover series in 2017. Charlie Cox continues as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, the show’s lead. With Colter and Jones now confirmed to appear, the full team is back.

The reunion carries extra weight because the original Netflix shows ended years ago. Daredevil finished its third season in 2018, Luke Cage and Iron Fist ended after two seasons each in 2018, and Jessica Jones wrapped its third and final season in 2019. Fans have waited nearly a decade to see these characters together again.

Vincent D‘Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, the Punisher. Wilson Bethel is also back as Bullseye, with new set photos showing his character in full costume featuring a helmet with a built-in camera.

Season 2 Finale Already Set Up Luke Cage‘s Return

The Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, titled The Southern Cross, aired on May 5, 2026. The episode brought back Luke Cage in its final moments. He reunited with Jessica Jones and their daughter, Danielle. Luke told Jessica he was finally home after working on a secret assignment overseas, though the show did not explain where he had been.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed that Luke Cage plays a big part in Season 3. He also teased that the reunion hides an Easter egg for comic book fans.

“If you know these characters’ history and you know some of the comic book runs, you‘ll know what’s happening,” Scardapane said.

The set photos show Luke Cage and Danny Rand walking through a park with Danielle, who is Luke and Jessica’s daughter. Fans of the comics will recognize the name Danielle Cage, a nod to Luke‘s comic book history. The quiet moment between the two heroes suggests the show will explore their friendship, something the original Netflix series only touched on briefly in The Defenders.

The Heroes’ History In The MCU

Luke Cage first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1972. Iron Fist debuted two years later in 1974. The two characters were eventually paired together in the comic book series Power Man and Iron Fist starting in 1978. Their friendship became one of Marvel’s most enduring partnerships.

In the MCU, Colter first played Luke Cage in Jessica Jones Season 1 in 2015. He later starred in his own series, Luke Cage, which ran for two seasons from 2016 to 2018. Finn Jones debuted as Danny Rand in Iron Fist Season 1 in 2017, followed by a second season in 2018. Both actors also appeared in The Defenders.

The original Netflix shows built a connected street-level universe. Daredevil started it all in 2015. The franchise expanded to include Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the crossover event The Defenders. Marvel canceled all the shows between 2018 and 2019 after Disney announced its own streaming service, Disney+.

What To Expect From Season 3

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 received an early renewal in September 2025, months before Season 2 premiered on March 24, 2026. Production began in New York City in March 2026.

Plot details remain under wraps. At the end of Season 2, Matt Murdock is in prison. Wilson Fisk is in exile after serving as New York City‘s mayor. Bullseye is also back in action, with set photos showing his new costume.

The show has not announced an official release date for Season 3. Following the pattern of the first two seasons, Disney+ will likely release the new season around March 2027. Season 1 premiered in March 2025, and Season 2 arrived in March 2026.

Before Season 3 arrives, fans can watch The Punisher: One Last Kill, a Disney+ special starring Jon Bernthal. The special releases on May 12, 2026.

The first two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming on Disney+ in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions worldwide. The original Netflix Marvel series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, are also available on Disney+.
