Tenko then informs Mao about a troubling situation at a local hospital: a patient with bandaged eyes has been sneaking out every night and returning covered in dirt.
Mao, Nanoka, and Otoya go to the hospital to investigate. They speak with a nurse and then stake out the patient’s room. That night, they watch the blindfolded man jump from his second-floor window and follow him to a graveyard. There, they witness him eating grave soil and then vomiting it into the air.
Mao recognizes the act as a form of Earth magic curse. The only person capable of performing such powerful magic is Natsuno, who appears on the scene shortly after. She denies casting the curse, explaining she was drawn there by the soil in the air.
As Natsuno approaches, small dragon-like serpents emerge from the patient’s bandaged eyes and fly away. Mao and Natsuno chase after them, leaving Nanoka and Otoya to return the patient to the hospital.
The chase leads Mao and Natsuno to the spiritual healer’s corridor. Natsuno triggers a trap and gets covered in mud, passing out. When she wakes, she summons the spirit of the healer. The spirit reveals that the patient did murder him, but the healer had infused his energy into the soil that the patient consumed, passing his responsibility onto the patient. That responsibility was to summon Natsuno to that place. Since the patient has now died, Natsuno leaves.
Back at the Milk Cafe, Mao finds Kamon and asks why he distrusts Natsuno. Kamon questions whether Natsuno was truly summoned to the Goshikido all those years ago. He recalls visiting a dying Natsuno at a hidenin, a temple refuge, after the fall of the Goko Clan. A female attendant told him that a plague god visited Natsuno every night. Kamon set up a barrier and waited. A large earth entity arrived, which Kamon banished, discovering it was an earthen doll. Natsuno woke up, and her hand reached out of the barrier. She was grabbed from beneath and disappeared. That incident left Kamon with a scar, which only those summoned to the Goshikido could inflict. However, Natsuno was far too weak at the time to use such powerful magic, leaving Kamon with lingering doubts about her true origins.
