The new Apple TV+ series Margo’s Got Money Troubles dropped its first three episodes on April 15, 2026. The show follows a 20-year-old college student who makes one bad decision after another, leading to a life she never planned. Elle Fanning plays Margo Millet, a young woman who gets pregnant after an affair with her married literature professor. Instead of taking the easy way out, she decides to keep the baby. That choice turns her whole world upside down.
The series is based on the book by Rufi Thorpe. David E. Kelley adapted it for television. The cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer as Margo’s mother Shyanne, Nick Offerman as her estranged father Jinx, and Nicole Kidman in a supporting role. The first three episodes set up a story about money problems, family drama, and a young mother trying to survive.
How Margo Ends Up Pregnant and Alone
Margo attends Fullerton College and dreams of becoming a writer. Her literature professor Mark Gable, played by Michael Angarano, notices her talent. He gives her special attention. Soon, they start an affair. Margo knows he is married but continues seeing him anyway. Her best friend Becca warns her from the start that Mark only wants one thing. Margo ignores the advice.
The affair does not last long. But it lasts long enough for Margo to get pregnant. When she tells Mark, he pushes her to get an abortion. Margo goes for an ultrasound and sees the baby’s picture. That moment changes everything. She decides to keep the child. Mark wants nothing to do with the situation. The affair ends badly.
Margo tells her mother Shyanne about the pregnancy. Shyanne got pregnant with Margo at a young age too. She worked as a waitress at Hooters and had a child with a married man who never left his family. Shyanne knows exactly how hard this road will be. She supports her daughter but cannot hide her worries. The two have a complicated relationship throughout the episodes.
A Newborn Brings Chaos, Not Joy
Margo gives birth to a son she names Bodhi. The first few weeks hit her like a truck. She has no idea how to be a mother. The baby cries constantly. Breastfeeding exhausts her. Her body hurts. She lives in an apartment with three roommates. Two of them cannot stand the noise. They move out without giving much notice. Only Susie, played by Thaddea Graham, stays to help.
Margo loses her waitressing job too. Her boss Tessa fires her for being unreliable. Margo had asked her mother to watch Bodhi while she worked. But Shyanne could not handle the crying. She brought the baby to Margo’s workplace. The interruption cost Margo her income. Now she has no job, no money, and a baby who needs diapers, formula, and constant care.
The show does not romanticize new motherhood. Viewers see Margo exhausted, crying, and completely overwhelmed. The baby is always there. There is no break. The apartment feels smaller every day. Bills pile up. Margo loves Bodhi but has no idea how to pay for his needs.
Jinx Returns as a Surprise Roommate
Margo tried to call her father Jinx when she found out she was pregnant. He did not answer. She thought he did not care. But the truth was different. Jinx had checked himself into rehab for drug addiction. The professional wrestling world had taken a toll on his body and mind. He needed to get clean.
When Jinx leaves rehab, he sees Margo’s messages. He learns he has a grandson. Without hesitating, he trades his championship belt for a motorcycle and drives to Fullerton. He shows up at Margo’s door ready to help. She lets him in.
Jinx wants to move in and take care of Bodhi. He is great with the baby. Susie, who loves wrestling, thinks Jinx is a legend. Margo worries about her father relapsing. But she sees how much he wants to stay clean. She agrees to let him become her roommate. Jinx becomes a steady presence in Bodhi’s life, something he never was for Margo.
Shyanne Gets Engaged While Hiding the Truth
Margo’s mother Shyanne has her own life to manage. She is dating Kenny, played by Greg Kinnear. Kenny is the President of the Episcopalian Church. He seems kind and traditional. Shyanne hides parts of herself from him. She is especially worried about how Kenny will react to Margo having a baby outside of marriage.
Kenny invites both women to dinner at Applebee’s. He asks Margo for her blessing to marry Shyanne. She gives it. Kenny gets down on one knee and proposes. Shyanne says yes. But the engagement comes with tension. Shyanne has not been completely honest with Kenny about her past or her family.
When Jinx returns, Shyanne feels jealous. Her ex-husband is back in their daughter’s life. Old feelings start to surface. The show hints that Shyanne may not be as ready to move on as she pretends.
Margo Confronts Mark and Gets a Deal
Money problems keep getting worse. Margo has no job and no savings. She needs cash now. In a moment of anger, she takes Bodhi to the college and confronts Mark. She demands three thousand dollars. She tells him he helped create this situation. He should help pay for it.
The confrontation backfires. Mark’s mother Elizabeth finds out. She calls Margo for a meeting. Elizabeth believes Margo tricked her son and is now trying to extort money. She brings a family lawyer to the meeting. Elizabeth offers a deal: a trust fund for Bodhi worth 50 thousand dollars. By the time Bodhi grows up, the money will grow to about 300 thousand dollars.
The deal comes with conditions. Margo must sign a non-disclosure agreement. She cannot set foot on Fullerton College again. She must leave Mark alone forever. Margo takes the deal. Her son’s future is secure. But she gets nothing for the present. She still has bills to pay today.
OnlyFans Becomes the Desperate Solution
Jinx talks about a wrestler named Arabella who got fired from WWE. The reason? She had an OnlyFans account. But the wrestler made more money from the platform in one month than she made in a year of wrestling. The story sticks in Margo’s head.
She checks out the platform. She creates an account under the name HungryGhost, taken from a poem Mark wrote for her during their affair. Margo sees a creator who makes money by insulting subscribers. She decides to try something similar. Her writing skills could be useful here. She posts some photos to show she is attractive. Then she starts offering her insult service.
The show sets up Margo’s OnlyFans journey at the end of episode three. She has no other options left. Her family cannot help. Her ex refuses to support her. The trust fund only helps Bodhi years from now. Margo needs money this week. The platform becomes her last hope.
