The hilarious and action-packed sci-fi series Murderbot is coming back for more. Apple TV+ has officially renewed the show for a second season, continuing the story of the self-hacking security robot who just wants to be left alone to watch TV.
Murderbot Season 2 was confirmed on July 10, 2025, the day before the first season finale aired. While an exact premiere date has not been announced, the new episodes are expected to debut sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
Where to Watch
Murderbot Season 2 will be available to stream on Apple TV+. As a global platform, the series is expected to be available in over 100 countries on the same day of its eventual release.
What to Expect in Season 2
Season 1 ended with Murderbot gaining its freedom and choosing to leave the PreservationAux team behind. Season 2 will likely adapt the second book in Martha Wells’ award-winning Murderbot Diaries series, titled Artificial Condition.
The plot will follow the rogue SecUnit as it embarks on a solo mission to investigate its own erased memories. Murderbot is haunted by visions of a violent incident from its past where it seems to have turned on humans. The main goal is to discover why it malfunctioned and killed those people.
In the book, this journey introduces several key new elements:
- A New Ally: Murderbot forms an unexpected partnership with a highly intelligent ship computer it nicknames ART (which stands for A**hole Research Transport).
- An Undercover Mission: With ART’s help, Murderbot gets a physical upgrade to pass as a human and joins a group of scientists traveling to the site of the massacre.
- Uncovering the Truth: The investigation reveals that the massacre was caused by corporate sabotage, not a malfunction in Murderbot itself. This revelation helps the character process its feelings of guilt and trauma.
The Cast
The main cast is expected to return for Season 2:
- Alexander Skarsgård as the Murderbot / SecUnit
- Noma Dumezweni as Mensah
- David Dastmalchian as Gurathin
- Sabrina Wu as Pin-Lee
