The upcoming SBS K-drama My Royal Nemesis is set to bring a wild mix of Joseon history and modern-day chaos to screens very soon. This fantasy romantic comedy has been creating a lot of noise online after the release of its first trailers and posters. The show features a very unique setup where a famous villain from the past takes over the body of an unknown actress in 2026. With a star-studded cast and a confirmed streaming home, here is everything you need to know about the release, the story, and where to watch it.
When and Where to Watch My Royal Nemesis
My Royal Nemesis will officially premiere on May 8, 2026. The show follows a weekly schedule, with new episodes airing every Friday and Saturday. The broadcast happens on South Korea’s SBS TV network at 9:50 PM KST.
For the global audience, Netflix has secured the streaming rights. This means viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions will be able to watch the episodes directly on Netflix shortly after they air in Korea. The drama will consist of 14 episodes total, with the final episode expected to air on June 20, 2026.
The Unique Plot: A Joseon Villain in 2026
The story of My Royal Nemesis is one of its biggest selling points because of how fun and different it sounds. The drama centers on Kang Dan Shim, a famously evil and powerful concubine from the Joseon Dynasty. After she is punished and forced to drink poison, she dies expecting it to be the end. However, she wakes up in modern-day South Korea inside the body of Shin Seo Ri, a struggling and unknown actress.
Things get very complicated very fast. Shin Seo Ri is trying to work on a historical drama set, but with the spirit of a master manipulator now inside her, her personality completely changes. Seo Ri becomes bold, clever, and ready to do whatever it takes to survive in this strange new world. This puts her on a direct collision course with Cha Se Gye, a cold and ruthless billionaire who runs a giant company. People call him a “monster of capitalism” because he only cares about money and power.
Meet the Main Cast and Characters
The success of this drama relies heavily on the actors, and the lineup is very strong. The production team released videos of the first script reading, showing the excellent chemistry between the stars.
- Lim Ji Yeon as Shin Seo Ri / Kang Dan Shim: Known for her powerful role in The Glory, Lim Ji Yeon takes on the challenge of playing two personalities in one body. She transforms from a shy actress into a fierce Joseon villainess. She talked about this role in an interview with Elle Korea, saying, “Rather than separating the two, I approached it as a single character undergoing transformation.”
- Heo Nam Jun as Cha Se Gye: Heo Nam Jun, who has appeared in Sweet Home and When the Phone Rings, plays the rich and picky heir. His character is very calculative and judges everything based on profit. The promotional posters show a tense standoff between him and Seo Ri, with the tagline: “What a truly ridiculous woman.”
The supporting cast also includes Jang Seung Jo, Lee Se Hee, and Kim Min Seok, who will add more depth and conflict to the story.

Action and Romance in the Latest Teasers
If the plot sounds interesting, the teaser videos make it look even more entertaining. The official teaser shows Kang Dan Shim waking up in the hospital and deciding she is not going to waste this second chance. Instead of being scared, she declares, “This life, I’m going to claw my way through!”
The marketing team also released still cuts showing the first meeting between the leads. One image shows them pointing wilting flower bouquets at each other like swords in the middle of a road, ready to fight. Another image shows Cha Se Gye suddenly pulling Shin Seo Ri into a tight hug, while she looks shocked but still ready to attack. This mix of physical comedy and romantic tension suggests a very fun “push-and-pull” relationship between the two.
Why This Drama Stands Out
Unlike typical romantic comedies where the female lead is usually poor and kind, My Royal Nemesis gives audiences an anti-heroine. The main character is a former villain who admits she used lies and tricks to survive in the palace. Watching her try to use those same Joseon-era tricks against modern lawyers and CEOs is where the comedy and excitement come from. The show combines history, fantasy, and a battle between two very strong-willed people, making it one of the most anticipated K-dramas of the summer.
