The world of Tulsa King is officially expanding. Following the successful third season of the hit Paramount+ series, a new spinoff titled NOLA King is in the works, starring Samuel L. Jackson. While the project is confirmed, fans are eager to know when they can watch it. Here is everything we know so far about the release of the new series.
The Official Word on the Release Date
As of now, Paramount+ has not announced an official release date for NOLA King. The series was officially confirmed in July 2025, and development is still in its early stages.
Based on the production timeline, the show is not expected to arrive in 2025 or the first half of 2026. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with some reports specifying a February 2026 start. After several months of filming and post-production work, most sources indicate a potential release window of late 2026 or early 2027.
Meet the Star and His Character
Samuel L. Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington Jr., a role he first introduced in the third season of Tulsa King. His character is an old friend of Dwight Manfredi, played by Sylvester Stallone. The two met and formed a strong bond while serving time in federal prison.
In Tulsa King, Russell is sent by the Renzetti crime family to kill Dwight. Instead of following orders, he warns Dwight about the setup. This act of loyalty sets Russell on a new path, leaving Tulsa for his hometown of New Orleans, a city he abandoned four decades ago.
The official series logline describes his journey: “NOLA King follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi during a ten-year stint in federal prison, returns to New Orleans to rekindle his relationship with his family, friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.”

The Creative Team Behind the Spinoff
The new series is part of producer Taylor Sheridan’s growing television universe, which includes Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown. Sheridan will serve as an executive producer on NOLA King. The series was originally developed by Dave Erickson, who was the showrunner for Tulsa King Season 3. However, due to his commitments to other projects, a new showrunner is being sought.
Sylvester Stallone is also onboard as an executive producer. He expressed strong support for the project and its star, stating that Jackson is the “only choice to anchor this new adventure”.
Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global, highlighted the strategic importance of the spinoff, saying:
“Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise.”
How Tulsa King Season 4 Fits In
The upcoming fourth season of Tulsa King will continue to lay the groundwork for the spinoff. Samuel L. Jackson’s character was introduced in the final episodes of Season 3, and his story is expected to be explored further in the next season before his solo series begins.
Tulsa King Season 4 is currently in production and is also targeting a late 2026 release. This means fans will likely get to see more of Russell Lee Washington Jr. in the original series before his journey continues in New Orleans.
