The Hito Hito no Mi has become one of the most important Devil Fruit families in One Piece, with four known models appearing in the series so far. From Tony Tony Chopper‘s standard Human-Human Fruit to Monkey D. Luffy‘s reality-bending Nika form, each model grants completely different abilities and operates on vastly different power levels. This ranking breaks down all four known Hito Hito no Mi models based on their canon abilities, major battles, and feats shown in the manga and anime.

How the Ranking Works

The ranking considers abilities demonstrated in the source material, combat feats, and the narrative importance of each fruit. Only canon information from the One Piece manga and anime is used. Models with limited screen time or unclear power ceilings rank lower due to insufficient evidence. The Hito Hito no Mi family includes the standard model eaten by Chopper, the Model: Daibutsu eaten by Sengoku, the Model: Onyudo eaten by Onimaru, and the Model: Nika eaten by Luffy.

4. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo is a Mythical Zoan-class Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into an onyudo, a large monk yokai from Japanese folklore, at will. The fruit was eaten by Onimaru, a fox who took on the identity of Gyukimaru in Wano Country.

Onimaru’s onyudo form increased his size dramatically and boosted his physical strength considerably. In this form, he matched Roronoa Zoro‘s physical strength and agility for a period during their encounter in Wano. The transformation also granted him full human speech and reasoning, similar to how Chopper‘s fruit gave him human intelligence.

The fruit ranks fourth because Onimaru never had large-scale battles that demonstrated the full extent of its power. Compared to the other three models, the Onyudo form lacks standout battles or special attacks that would allow for a proper comparison. The fruit’s abilities are clear, but its power ceiling remains unclear due to limited appearances.

3. Hito Hito no Mi (Chopper’s Standard Model)

Tony Tony Chopper, the Straw Hat Pirates‘ doctor, ate the standard Hito Hito no Mi, which gave a reindeer human intelligence, the ability to speak, and human-like thinking. At first glance, this appears to be the weakest fruit in the ranking, but Chopper spent years finding ways to unlock its hidden potential.

The fruit initially granted Chopper three basic transformations: Walk Point (full reindeer form for speed), Brain Point (small human-reindeer hybrid for analysis), and Heavy Point (large muscular form for combat). Chopper later developed the Rumble Ball, a drug that altered the wavelength of his Devil Fruit powers, giving him access to additional forms including Guard Point, Horn Point, and Jumping Point.

The Monster Point became Chopper‘s strongest transformation, growing him to nearly 30 feet in height with frightening strength. In this form, he can destroy buildings with a single swing and endure massive damage. After the time skip, Chopper refined the Rumble Ball to control Monster Point without losing his mind, and the form now lasts around 30 minutes instead of the original short duration.

Recent events in the Elbaf arc suggest Chopper‘s fruit may have even more secrets. In One Piece chapter 1177, Chopper used Monster Point to slap a giant who had been transformed by Imu‘s Domi Reversi technique, and the curse left the giant’s body on contact. This unexpected ability to reverse a mysterious transformation points to hidden powers in the Hito Hito no Mi that have not yet been fully explained.

2. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu

Sengoku, the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines, ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a Mythical Zoan-class fruit that allows him to transform into a giant golden Buddha statue. The fruit’s name was revealed in SBS Volume 60.

In his Daibutsu form, Sengoku‘s body takes on a golden hue similar to a polished gold statue, with abnormally large arms and relatively tiny legs. The transformation gives him an extreme boost in strength to match his increased size. He can use palm thrusts to launch powerful shock waves that cause heavy and widespread damage to groups of enemies.

Sengoku‘s fruit was strong enough to injure Monkey D. Luffy even with his rubber body and to destroy the scaffold they were on despite it being blocked by Mr. 3‘s harder-than-steel Candle Wall. During the Marineford arc, his shock waves were powerful enough to injure even the Blackbeard Pirates.

Nearby Marines noted that they had never seen Sengoku use his fruit’s powers before the Marineford battle, suggesting he rarely transforms. The fruit’s power is the main reason for Sengoku‘s moniker: “The Buddha“. The Daibutsu model ranks second because its destructive power is well-documented, even though Sengoku has not engaged in as many extended battles as Luffy.

1. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika

Monkey D. Luffy‘s Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is the strongest Hito Hito no Mi model introduced in One Piece. The fruit was officially revealed in One Piece chapter 1044, published on March 28, 2022, in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump issue #17. Initially introduced as the Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum-Gum Fruit), the World Government hid its true name and power in hopes that it would never be awakened.

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants its user a rubbery body and the power of the legendary Sun God Nika, also known as the Warrior of Liberation. The fruit has had two known users: the first was Joy Boy from the Void Century, and the second is Luffy.

Luffy awakened the fruit during the Wano Country arc, unlocking a transformation called Gear 5 that turned him into the Sun God Nika. The awakening granted him a more rubbery body, a boost to all physical attributes, and the ability to fight however he wills, breaking even the laws of nature itself. In Gear 5, Luffy is limited only by his own imagination, which makes the fruit incredibly special.

“Possessing a body with the powers of rubber, and fighting in whatever way he fancies, bringing smiles to the faces of people, the Warrior of Liberation…also known as the Sun God, Nika!” — Eiichiro Oda explains the Nika Devil Fruit

The Gear 5 form first appeared in the anime in episode 1071, which aired on August 6, 2023. The episode revealed through the Five Elders that Luffy‘s Devil Fruit had a different name that was changed to hide its importance: the Mythical Zoan-Type Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Model: Nika.

Despite its incredible power, Gear 5 has significant limitations. The form drains Luffy‘s energy rapidly, and after using it, he becomes completely exhausted. Recent events in the Elbaf arc showed Luffy running out of gas completely, making Gear 5 ineffective against Imu. This suggests that while the Nika fruit is the strongest Hito Hito no Mi model, its power still has clear boundaries in the grand scheme of the series.

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika ranks first because it represents the highest level of power seen in the One Piece series, combining Mythical Zoan abilities with reality-bending properties that no other Hito Hito no Mi model has demonstrated.
