Netflix India announced the release on social media, confirming that the film will be available in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages from day one. A Hindi version is scheduled to arrive on the platform at a later date.

Peddi’s Massive Box Office Run

Peddi had an impressive theatrical run that lasted nearly a month. According to box office tracking site Sacnilk, the film collected ₹338.98 crore worldwide. The India gross collection alone stood at ₹286 crore.

The film crossed the ₹200 crore nett mark in Telugu within 14 days of release, becoming only the ninth Telugu film to achieve this milestone. It also emerged as the highest-grossing South Indian film of 2026. The movie played across over 1.2 lakh shows during its theatrical run.

The production budget for Peddi was reportedly ₹350 crore. While the film performed strongly in Telugu-speaking states and North America, it faced challenges in recovering its full production costs.

Star-Studded Cast and Crew

Ram Charan plays the titular role of Peddi in this rustic sports drama. Janhvi Kapoor appears as his love interest Achiyyamma, marking her second Telugu film after Devara.

The ensemble cast includes several prominent names:

  • Shiva Rajkumar as Gourinaidu
  • Jagapathi Babu as Appalasoori
  • Divyenndu as Rambujji
  • Boman Irani
  • Ravi Kishan

The film’s music and background score were composed by Oscar-winning musician A.R. Rahman. Venkata Satish Kilaru produced the film under the banner of Vriddhi Cinemas, in association with Mythri Movie Makers and IVY Entertainment.

Ram Charan’s Dedication and Near-Miss Injury

During the success bash for Peddi, Ram Charan’s father and veteran actor Chiranjeevi shared an emotional story about the dangers his son faced during filming.

Chiranjeevi revealed that Ram Charan suffered a serious eye injury while shooting an action sequence. The actor required eight stitches after the injury.

“During the shoot, Charan suffered an eye injury. I was terrified when I saw the photo of it. He required eight stitches, yet he didn’t back down. We were told that there were chances that he could have lost his eye if it hit him a little lower. He got lucky and got an injury on his eyebrow,” Chiranjeevi said.

The megastar also spoke about his son’s incredible work ethic. Ram Charan would wake up at 4 am every day to train, go to the sets, return home late at night, and continue training.

“Charan is the son of a star hero; he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He didn’t have to work this hard. He could have simply done what the director asked and moved on. But he chose to believe in hard work,” Chiranjeevi added.

Controversy Surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s Character

Peddi faced criticism over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiyyamma. Many viewers described the depiction as hyper-sexualised, with particular focus on close-up shots of her body.

Director Buchi Babu Sana addressed the backlash publicly. He admitted that certain scenes from Janhvi Kapoor’s track turned out to be “misleading” and confirmed their removal from the film.

“Few shots turned misleading,” Buchi Babu Sana said while explaining the changes.

The controversy also involved a scene where Ram Charan’s character kisses Janhvi Kapoor’s character without apparent consent. The backlash largely targeted the writing of her character rather than the film’s overall direction.

The makers later released an updated version of the film in theatres on June 17, adding new scenes to give more emotional depth to Janhvi Kapoor’s character.

What to Expect from Peddi on Netflix

Peddi tells the story of a man from a rural background who rises through the world of sports. Ram Charan’s performance has been widely praised by critics, with many calling it a career-best effort.

The film features Ram Charan in multiple athletic roles, appearing as a cricketer, wrestler, and runner. The sports drama combines action with emotional storytelling, set against a rustic backdrop.

Critics noted that while the film has an uneven screenplay, Ram Charan’s performance and A.R. Rahman’s music hold it together. The movie received a 6.0 rating on IMDb based on audience reviews.

Streaming Details for Global Audiences

Peddi will start streaming on Netflix from July 9, 2026. The platform announced the release with a caption that read: “Aata marocchu kaani, monagadu mathram maradu” – which translates to “The game might change, but the champion remains the same”.
