Episode 7 Recap: “Penultimate Means Second to Last”
Episode 7, titled “Penultimate Means Second to Last,” aired on July 31, 2026. It was a devastating hour that saw the death of another major Thomas family member.
The episode picked up with the Thomas family under pressure from all sides. Marvin (London Brown) knew the walls were closing in. He accepted that the war had reached a point where survival was no longer guaranteed. He prepared for the end, not knowing how it would happen or at whose hands.
Kanan (Mekai Curtis) continued working alongside Snaps and Pop, showing little concern for the people who had stood beside him. His actions revealed just how much he had changed. Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore) kept investigating the murder of Famous. She followed every clue until she discovered that Snaps and Pop were responsible. She took matters into her own hands and killed both of them.
Raq (Patina Miller) faced her own problems. Her business empire continued to crumble. One trusted connection after another slipped away. Flossy cut ties with her after learning the truth about Kanan. Pino Bernardi also turned his back on her. No one would touch her, leaving the Thomas family vulnerable to everyone.
The episode’s final act saw Kanan confront Marvin inside a church. Marvin was there leaving money for his daughter Jukebox in case of his death. Kanan appeared with a gun. Marvin, fearless, smoked a cigarette and challenged his nephew, telling him to get on with it. Then Kanan shot and killed his uncle.
This death followed the earlier season death of Lou (Malcolm Mays), who was also killed by Kanan. With Marvin gone, only three Thomases remain: Raq, Kanan, and Jukebox. The episode left Raq’s empire hanging by a thread, law enforcement tightening its grip, and Jukebox crossing another line from which there is no turning back.

Episode 8 is titled “Unconditional Love”. It serves as the series finale and will close out the story of Kanan Stark’s origin.
The finale promises a confrontation between Raq and Kanan. The season has been building toward this collision. With Marvin dead, Raq will be fighting the wars she started by herself. She will also find out that Kanan took out her brother.
A preview clip for the episode shows Kanan looking at Marvin in a coffin. Raq is seen saying, “Everything I’ve ever been, and everything I ever thought I was gonna be is gone”. In a tense scene, Kanan tells Raq, “We can’t fix all that wrong sht. It’s too late for all that”*.
Series creator Sascha Penn has said this final season answers every remaining question about the story, including how Kanan is able to kill Jukebox in the original Power series. Everything involving the Thomas family will be resolved by the finale. Reports indicate Kanan will not die in the finale, but it will mark the end of the story for other characters.
