Robert Pattinson continues his strong 2026 run at the box office. His new A24 thriller Primetime opened to an estimated $19.2 million from 2,863 theaters across North America over the September 25-27 weekend. That marks the third-best opening weekend in A24’s history, behind only Backrooms ($81.4 million) and Civil War ($25.5 million). The film was produced for just $15 million, putting it on a fast track to profit.
Opening Weekend Numbers And Ranking
Primetime landed at No. 4 on the domestic chart for the weekend. The re-release of Avengers: Endgame Encore took the top spot with $26 million from 3,060 theaters. Resident Evil held at No. 2 with $23.5 million, and Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, came in at No. 3 with $20 million from 3,435 locations.

Chris Hansen’s Reaction
The real Chris Hansen has publicly rejected the film. He told Variety that he left a private screening because A24’s lawyers asked him to sign an NDA that would have signed away rights to his name, image, and brand. After eventually seeing the film, Hansen called it “so bizarre” and “detached from reality.” He also questioned whether Pattinson’s portrayal amounted to “identity theft.” Pattinson addressed the criticism by explaining that the film shifted into a “slightly metaphysical world” rather than a traditional biopic. “I like things that are more esoteric and strange,” he said.
