The first teaser of Ranabaali is finally out, giving audiences a raw look at Vijay Deverakonda as a fearless rebel warrior taking on British colonial forces. The period action drama, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, also features Rashmika Mandanna and marks the Indian cinema debut of Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo.
The two-minute-32-second teaser dropped on September 9, 2026, ahead of the film’s worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026. Production house Mythri Movie Makers shared the teaser on social media, and it quickly started trending across platforms.
The Story Behind Ranabaali
The teaser opens with a title card that reads: “In memory of eight million Indian lives lost under British rule, 1876-78”. This refers to the Great Famine of 1876-78 that devastated the Madras Presidency and killed millions across Southern and Western India.
Set in 19th-century Rayalaseema, Ranabaali tells the story of a man who rises against British oppression. The teaser shows drought-stricken villages and starving civilians, painting a picture of suffering and colonial exploitation.
Vijay Deverakonda plays Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a feared rebel warrior. The British characters in the teaser repeatedly call him “savage,” but the teaser turns this label into a badge of honor rather than an insult.
Rashmika Mandanna appears as Jayamma, Ranabaali’s wife. Though her screen time in the teaser is limited, she plays a significant role in the story. The film marks Vijay and Rashmika’s first project together after their marriage earlier this year.
Arnold Vosloo Makes Indian Cinema Debut
Arnold Vosloo, best known for playing Imhotep in The Mummy franchise, makes his Indian cinema debut with Ranabaali. He plays Sir Theodore Hector, a ruthless British officer described as the “Demon of Drought”.
Director Rahul Sankrityan shared why he chose Vosloo for the role:
“We knew that we wanted a strong Hollywood actor for this part, which is inspired by a real character. We were keen on Arnold, as his work in The Mummy is so well known in India and adds a strong nostalgia factor for audiences as well.”
The teaser shows Sir Theodore Hector rationing rice and grains to the point where people begin to die of starvation. He is portrayed as a man who rules the then-Madras constituency with an iron fist.
Sankrityan also shared his admiration for Vosloo on social media when releasing the actor’s first-look poster:
“Mummy was one of my all-time favorite films growing up. I loved every character in it, but above all, it was the villain who made me truly believe that monsters could exist. Many years later, when I sat down to write one of my favorite villain characters ever- The Monster in Uniform, The Demon of the Drought, The antagonist of #Ranabaali, SIR THEODORE HECTOR.”
He added, “I never imagined destiny would bring me face to face with my childhood favorite villain. ARNOLD VOSLOO.”
Vijay Deverakonda’s Fierce Avatar
The teaser presents Vijay Deverakonda in a rugged, battle-worn look that is completely different from the urban, romantic characters his audience is used to seeing. His character is shown fighting British soldiers with raw ferocity.
Sharing the teaser on X, Vijay wrote:

The combat sequences are physically intense, with Ranabaali shown hacking through British soldiers to free his people. The teaser builds to a climactic moment where Vijay delivers a powerful line.
Production house Mythri Movie Makers also shared the teaser with a caption:
