A fan-made expansion called Undead Damnation is bringing the zombie apocalypse back to the American West. Modder Rixus released a teaser trailer for the project on October 23, 2026, showing undead hordes roaming familiar locations from Red Dead Redemption 2. The mod is a prequel to the original Undead Nightmare DLC and will be free for all PC players through Nexus Mods. A release date has not been set.
What the Undead Damnation Mod Includes
The project aims to recreate the full Undead Nightmare experience inside Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the official mod description, it incorporates all the mechanics and features of the 2010 DLC. The undead curse spreads across the entire game map, from Annesburg in the north to Tumbleweed in the south.
Players will find new locations to save and cemeteries to clear. The mod adds fresh missions and encounters, classic soundtracks from the original expansion, and new zombie types. The teaser confirms that the mod is built to feel like a natural extension of the base game, not a separate mode.
“After many months of hard work behind the scenes, I’m honored to present the first look at our new project for the Red Dead Redemption 2 community: Undead Damnation. This fan-created prequel to Undead Nightmare incorporates all the mechanics and features of the original 2010 DLC. It recaptures the apocalyptic atmosphere of the undead curse, spreading it across the entire game map from Annesburg to Tumbleweed, and includes new locations to save, cemeteries to clear, new missions and encounters, classic soundtracks, new zombie types, and much more. Coming soon for free to everyone via Nexusmods.”
Teaser Trailer Shows Zombies in Saint Denis and Across the Map
The October 23 trailer runs on the Rixus YouTube channel and has already drawn over 38,000 views. It opens on a dark, stormy night in the Red Dead Redemption 2 world. Clips show zombies moving through the countryside and running through the streets of Saint Denis.
Settlements around the map appear abandoned. The only signs of life are shambling undead figures. The trailer does not show gameplay menus or story cutscenes, but it sets the tone for a full-map outbreak.
Why Undead Nightmare Still Has a Following
Rockstar Games released Undead Nightmare in October 2010 as an expansion for the first Red Dead Redemption. The story followed John Marston as he tried to stop a zombie plague across the American West. The expansion became one of the most remembered pieces of single-player content in the series.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in October 2018 and never received an official single-player expansion. Fans have asked for a zombie-themed follow-up for years. Several mods have tried to fill that gap, but Undead Damnation is the first to directly connect itself as a prequel to the 2010 story.
Free Nexus Mods Download, Release Date Still Unknown
Undead Damnation will be available as a free download on Nexus Mods for all PC players of Red Dead Redemption 2. The mod does not have a release date yet. Rixus has not shared a launch window or a full feature list beyond the teaser description.
The mod also does not have an official Nexus Mods page at the time of writing. The trailer description only says the project is “coming soon” to the platform. The mod will be available worldwide, with no region restrictions for PC users in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, or any other territory.
