The first trailer for Ricky Gervais‘ new adult animated comedy series Alley Cats has arrived, and it is exactly what fans of the comedian would expect. The show follows a gang of feral British cats who cause chaos while thinking about the meaning of life and fighting to survive in a harsh human world. The six-episode series will premiere on Netflix on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Gervais, who created, wrote, and directed the series, voices one of the main feline characters alongside an ensemble cast. The show features a bold 2D animation style produced by the UK-based studio Blink Industries. The series marks Gervais’ return to adult animation since The Ricky Gervais Show concluded over a decade ago.

The Trailer and What It Reveals

The trailer introduces viewers to a group of street-smart cats navigating life in the alleys. The series is described as “packed with Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary that audiences have come to expect.” The show’s tagline sums up its tone perfectly: “Nine lives, zero f***s.”

Gervais expressed his excitement about the project. The comedian said, “I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer. I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.” The show brings together Gervais’ trademark blend of grumpiness, emotional depth, and observations about society.

Star-Studded Voice Cast

The series features an impressive lineup of British comedy talent. Alongside Gervais, the cast includes Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, and Diane Morgan. Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way are also part of the voice cast. Gervais voices a chubby orange cat, following the tradition of famous sarcastic TV cats like Garfield and Heathcliff.

Production Details and Episode Format

Alley Cats consists of six episodes, each running 15 minutes long. The series is a collaboration between several production companies, including Gervais’ own Derek Productions, Shush Creative, and Blink Industries.

Gervais serves as executive producer alongside Steven Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet), James Stevenson Bretton, and Ben Lole. Elliot Dear is the co-director, while Hugo Donkin produces and Tang Heng serves as production designer.
