Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point is getting back on the court for another season. The show, starring Kate Hudson, became a quick hit after its first season arrived in February 2025. Now, fans are counting down the days until the Gordon family returns with more laughs, family drama, and basketball chaos.

The series follows Isla Gordon, who suddenly becomes the president of the Los Angeles Waves, her family’s professional basketball team. Season 1 ended with a championship loss, a complicated love triangle, and the surprise return of her brother Cam from rehab. Season 2 picks up right where things left off, raising the stakes for everyone involved.

Official Trailer and Release Date

Running Point Season 2 arrives on Netflix on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The streaming service released the official trailer on March 25, 2026, giving viewers a clear look at what Isla faces in the new episodes.

The trailer shows Isla dealing with her brother Cam’s quiet attempts to take back his old job. It also hints at financial problems for the Waves organization. New faces appear throughout the preview, including Octavia Spencer, Lisa Rinna, Nicole Richie, and Scott Speedman as guest stars.

The new season will have 10 episodes, just like the first season. All episodes will be available to stream on the same day.

What to Expect in Season 2

The official synopsis from Netflix explains the situation Isla finds herself in. She is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Waves. Now, everyone is watching her every move. After the scandal from last season, the team is finally recovering. Isla wants to prove she is the right person for the job and not just keeping the seat warm for Cam.

But Cam has other plans. He works quietly behind the scenes to get his position back, using any mistake Isla makes against her. At the same time, Isla tries to balance running a basketball franchise with her personal life. Every choice she makes matters, both at work and at home.

The family power plays get more intense. The board watches closely. Isla has to change her approach from last season and create a new plan if she wants to finish the season on top.

Behind the Scenes

The creative team behind the show remains the same. Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen created the series and serve as executive producers. Stassen also works as the showrunner. The show draws inspiration from Jeanie Buss, the real-life president and owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss serves as an executive producer along with Linda Rambis.

Kate Hudson also executive produces the series alongside Howard Klein. The show comes from Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Season 1 Success and Early Renewal

The first season of Running Point performed well for Netflix. Within its first four days, the show collected 9.3 million views worldwide. It ranked third on Netflix’s English-language Top 10 list during its opening week. The show spent five weeks in the Global English Top 10 TV List and reached the Top 10 in 83 countries.

Because of this strong performance, Netflix renewed the show for a second season just one week after Season 1 premiered. This quick renewal showed the streamer’s confidence in the series.

Mindy Kaling shared her excitement when the renewal happened:

“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a season two of Running Point to the fans of the show. We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”

Critical Response and Viewership

Season 1 received a Certified Fresh score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Audience scores also stayed strong at 81%. The show topped Netflix’s US charts in early March 2025, showing its appeal to viewers across different regions.

The series marks a return to comedy for Kate Hudson, who earned an Oscar nomination for her dramatic work. She expressed interest in doing comedy again, and the role of Isla Gordon gave her that chance.

Running Point Season 2 streams exclusively on Netflix starting April 23, 2026. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions can watch all 10 episodes on that date.
