The creative team behind the show remains the same. Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen created the series and serve as executive producers. Stassen also works as the showrunner. The show draws inspiration from Jeanie Buss, the real-life president and owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss serves as an executive producer along with Linda Rambis.

The first season of Running Point performed well for Netflix. Within its first four days, the show collected 9.3 million views worldwide.
