The second season of Saga of Tanya the Evil continues to deliver intense military drama mixed with dark humor. Episode 9, titled “Sightseeing Tour,” arrived on September 2, 2026. It took viewers on a surprising journey. The episode showed Tanya Degurechaff and her elite 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion enjoying what looked like a peaceful vacation. But underneath the beautiful scenery and delicious food, serious political games were being played.
The episode is now streaming on Crunchyroll for audiences worldwide. It is also available on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and 22 other countries. Japanese audiences can watch it on AT-X, TOKYO MX, and other local networks.
The Empire Sends Tanya on a “Sightseeing Tour”
After successfully withdrawing its forces from the southern continent, the Empire decided to send a message to its ally, the Kingdom of Ildoa. Ildoa had refused to help the Empire with the retreat, hiding behind its claim of “strict neutrality”. The Empire did not take this refusal lightly.
Instead of sending angry letters, the Empire sent Tanya and her famous 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion. They arrived on a submarine flying the Imperial flag. The visit was called a “goodwill tour” and a “sightseeing trip.” But in reality, it was a clear act of intimidation.
The Empire wanted to show the world that Ildoa was friendly with them. If Ildoa refused the visit, they would break their alliance with the Empire. If they welcomed Tanya’s battalion, other countries would question Ildoa’s neutrality. It was a clever trap. The Empire forced Ildoa into a difficult position without firing a single shot.
Tanya Sees a World Without War for the First Time
For most of the series, Tanya has been surrounded by destruction, exhausted soldiers, and constant warfare. Episode 9 showed her experiencing something completely foreign: peace.
Ildoa was untouched by the war. Its cities had proper infrastructure. Its people had enough food. The citizens did not live in constant fear of bombs or invasions. When Tanya sat down to eat, she was shocked by the quality of the food. Fresh bread, cheese, pastries, and coffee were served without any restrictions. In the Empire, these were luxuries that most people could only dream of.
“White bread, smooth trains, shiny dishes. What wore down Tanya’s spirit more than bullets was the rich dining table of an allied nation.”
One online viewer shared their reaction on social media, saying:
“Tanya’s reaction to this country’s luxurious meals was amusing to look at, but at the same time, it did reveal something important. Those who have looked into the face of war and are now getting to witness something as simple as good food end up experiencing a mind-altering event.”
The contrast between Ildoa and the Empire became painfully clear when Tanya returned home. The train ride became rough as soon as she crossed the border. The Empire was winning battles, but its economy and land were dying.
Tanya Questions Ildoa’s Neutrality
Despite enjoying the food and the peaceful surroundings, Tanya grew frustrated with Ildoa’s attitude. She questioned whether a nation could stay neutral forever while the entire continent burned.
“If you’re nobody’s enemy, you’re also nobody’s friend.”
Ildoa’s neutrality was not perfect. They refused to send soldiers to help the Empire. But they still sold gas to them. They did not allow Imperial forces to retreat through their land. But they let Tanya’s strike team vacation there after they destroyed the Commonwealth’s navy. This double standard angered both sides in the war.
Tanya also had a tense dinner meeting with Colonel Gassman of Ildoa. Both sides acted polite and friendly. But behind the smiles, they were trying to find each other’s weaknesses. No bullets were fired. But the conversation was still a battle.
The Empire Considers Invading Ildoa
The biggest shock of Episode 9 came when Tanya returned to the Empire and met with Rudersdorf. The higher-ups were not just upset with Ildoa. They were seriously thinking about conquering the country.
Ildoa was untouched by war. Its infrastructure was intact. The Empire could easily take control of the nation. They could then force Ildoa to pay heavy war reparations. The Empire needed a victory to show its citizens that all the bloodshed was worth it. The Francois Republic was too damaged to pay anything. The gains in Russy were supposed to become independent countries. Ildoa seemed like the perfect target.
Tanya immediately understood the problem. The Empire barely had enough soldiers to fight its current enemies. Starting another war could be a complete disaster. Unless the Empire won quickly and decisively.
The episode also showed that Tanya has always had an exit strategy in mind. She wants the war to end. But now she was trying to create a personal exit strategy. Many military leaders were also looking for a way out. But it might already be too late.
Rudersdorf mentioned that attacking Ildoa was at least a consideration. Based on what she saw, Tanya realized it was actually quite feasible. Ildoa’s peace had made them soft. They were not prepared for real war.
“If I were the Commonwealth, I’d be pissed. If I were the Empire, I’d be doubly so. When it all comes down to it, the war is coming for Idola.”
