SEVENTEEN’s Vernon recently appeared on Episode 4 of Haha and Yang Se Chan’s YouTube series Public TV Dumb*ss, where he shared some surprising facts about the group’s monthly meetings, revealing that there’s a steep penalty for missing them.
In the casual and lighthearted interview, Vernon explained how SEVENTEEN’s members maintain close bonds, even though they live together and occasionally experience misunderstandings. He emphasized the importance of communication and explained that regular group meetings are a key part of resolving issues within the group. These meetings aren’t just about work—they cover various aspects of their lives and are hosted by different members each month, with the host covering the expenses.
“We joke around a lot, and we also talk about work. …To be accurate, every time we meet, the member who takes care of that month pays.” — Vernon
Harry Potter Dress Codes and Penalties for Tardiness
Vernon shared that these monthly meetings sometimes include a fun twist, such as themed dress codes. For instance, SEVENTEEN’s DK once hosted a meeting with a Harry Potter theme, where he supplied cloaks, hats, and ties for everyone. While there is no fine for skipping a costume, it might disappoint the member organizing the event.
“There are members who do [dress codes], but I don’t. Last time, DK chose Harry Potter. Cloak, hat, tie, etc… DK ordered the costumes and designated them to us.” — Vernon
However, there is a much stricter penalty for something else. If a member misses the meeting entirely, they are fined ₩10 million KRW (approximately $7,300 USD). This steep fine ensures that no one skips a meeting unless they have a legitimate reason, such as illness.
A Strict Late Fee
Vernon also revealed that members are charged ₩100,000 KRW (around $73 USD) for every minute they are late. Though no one has had to pay the hefty fine for missing a meeting altogether, some have been fined for being late. These rules help ensure that everyone takes the meetings seriously and stays committed to their responsibilities.
Where Does the Penalty Money Go?
Interestingly, the money collected from these fines doesn’t just disappear. Vernon revealed that the penalty fees are used to fund gatherings for PLEDIS Entertainment’s staff. While this policy seems unconventional, it highlights SEVENTEEN’s close-knit relationship with their management team.
