In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, Spire Entertainment’s CEO, Hwang Sung Woo, held a press conference on March 19, revealing startling allegations against members of the popular group, OMEGA X.
The press conference began with Hwang Sung Woo informing media members that they would be releasing proof to exonerate his wife and former CEO, Kang, of sexual assault allegations. Despite being a victim, Kang had initially hesitated to release the video, not wanting to make the young OMEGA X member a felon. However, due to the worsening false allegations, she decided to release the CCTV footage of her being molested.
Hwang Sung Woo explained the circumstances that led up to the assault. He stated that he was out drinking with the members who were drafted into the military. At the time, Kang was working late in the office due to the group’s U.S. and Japan tours. When Kang realized they were drunk, she cleaned up after them. Hwichan then asked to speak with Kang separately. He told her he was heartbroken to have to go to the military when he prepared for his debut since Middle School. He asked Kang to help him push back his military service. Kang was consoling him and told him she would try to find a way.
The video, which was then played, showed disturbing footage of Hwichan forcing himself onto Kang and pulling up her shirt. He was also seen putting his hands under her shirt. When Kang tried to stop Hwichan, Hwang Sung Woo claimed that Hwichan used force to continue his assault. Hwichan didn’t stop and used his strength to continue his molestation of Kang. Kang, who feared for her safety, calmly de-escalated the situation so as not to provoke him.
Hwang Sung Woo continued stating that they had internal discussions to kick the member out and call the police, but that they had instead decided to stop his promotions after the idol’s tour. The CEO also revealed that the footage was shown to other members as well.
Hwang Sung Woo then claimed it was then that the members, realizing they wouldn’t be able to continue under the label for much longer, colluded to find a way out of their contract.
“Due to this incident, the 11 members realized that their future promotions were in jeopardy and started to make reasons (to leave the label). Not long after, they held a press conference claiming that they were physically and sexually abused.“
