The newest Star Wars animated series has arrived, putting one of the galaxy’s most feared villains back in the spotlight. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord premiered on April 6, 2026, exclusively on Disney+, bringing the former Sith Lord on a brutal quest for revenge. The show picks up after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and follows Maul as he builds a criminal empire on a planet untouched by the Empire.

Dave Filoni, who recently became president and chief creative officer of Lucasfilm, created the series based on characters from George Lucas. The show features a talented group of actors giving voice to new characters and returning favorites. Here is everything you need to know about who plays who in this dark new chapter of the Star Wars saga.

The Voice Cast and Characters Bringing ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ to Life

The Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord voice cast includes both veteran Star Wars actors and fresh faces. Sam Witwer returns as the title character, a role he has played for years across multiple animated series. Witwer first voiced Maul in the 2012 animated short and continued in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. His deep understanding of the character brings a level of authenticity that long-time fans will appreciate.

The series also introduces new characters who cross paths with Maul on his revenge mission. Gideon Adlon voices Devon Izara, a young Jedi Padawan who has lost faith in the Jedi Order. Adlon is known for her roles in Blockers and The Society. Wagner Moura, a recent Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee for his role in The Secret Agent, plays Brander Lawson, a police detective on the planet Janix.

Richard Ayoade, famous for his work on The IT Crowd and voicing characters in various animated films, provides the voice for Two-Boots, Lawson’s droid partner. Dennis Haysbert, known for his powerful voice and roles in 24 and Far from Heaven, voices Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, a Jedi Master who survived Order 66.

Fan Reactions to the First Episodes

Early reactions from fans have started appearing on social media since the premiere. Many viewers have praised the animation quality and the darker tone of the series. One fan wrote on X, “The first two episodes of Star Wars: Maul-Shadow Lord were so awesome! Such a strong start. The animation is as flawless as ever. The lightsaber fight sequences were amazing.”

Other fans have noted the mature direction the series takes. A reviewer shared, “It’s a big leap forward for Star Wars animation in terms of visual look and mature tone. More compelling than expected.” The show has also drawn attention for putting a villain at the center of the story rather than following the typical Jedi-led narrative.

The series carries a TV-14 rating for action violence and darker thematic elements, marking a shift toward more adult-oriented storytelling in Star Wars animation. Dave Filoni described the visual style as “more aggressive, a bit more edgy, a bit more painterly” compared to previous shows like The Bad Batch and The Clone Wars.
