Sophie Segreti’s game on Survivor 49 came to a sudden end in this week’s episode. The player, often called “Sophie With An E” to distinguish her from contestant Sophi Balerdi, was voted out by a unanimous 5-1 vote. The blindside was fueled by revenge and a growing belief that her challenge skills and clean voting record made her too big a threat to keep in the game.

This elimination shakes up the game just two weeks before the season finale, leaving six players to compete for the $1 million prize. The vote also served as a major victory for Sage Ahrens-Nichols, who was determined to get back at Sophie for her role in voting out Sage’s closest ally, Jawan Pitts, the previous week.

The Setup: A “Strenuous” Advantage and a Critical Immunity Win

The episode, titled “The Cherry on Top,” began with the fallout from Jawan’s dramatic blindside. Sage was furious and made it clear that getting Sophie out was her main goal. Meanwhile, Steven Ramm, feeling vulnerable, volunteered for a special solo task described as a “strenuous activity”.

Steven was taken to a separate island where he faced a race against the rising tide. He had to find six numbers scattered around the island, use them to unlock a box, and then smash a pot in the ocean to win an advantage. If the pot fell before he unlocked the box, he would lose his vote at the next Tribal Council. Steven completed the difficult challenge and won a Block-a-Vote advantage, allowing him to secretly cancel one person’s vote at Tribal.

Later, at the main Immunity Challenge, contestants had to stack blocks on a spinning disc to spell “IMMUNITY”. Steven won the challenge, securing his safety and throwing a wrench into many players’ plans. As part of his reward, he enjoyed a spaghetti feast and chose to bring Kristina Mills and Rizo Velovic with him.

The Strategy: Two Plans and a Secret Weapon

With Steven safe, the target shifted. At the reward feast, Rizo pitched a plan to Steven and Kristina: vote out Sophie. He argued she was a major threat because she had been on the right side of every vote so far and had won two individual immunity challenges. Steven liked the idea because it would allow him to save his new Block-a-Vote advantage for a later round.

Steven said, “I would love to knock her out of the game. If we have the numbers, Savannah is a target that we need to get rid of ASAP. But this is Survivor. You have to be fluid”.

Meanwhile, a separate plan was forming back at camp. Sophi Balerdi knew she was at the bottom of her three-person alliance with Rizo and Savannah Louie. She talked with Sage about joining forces to blindside Savannah. However, Sage’s desire for revenge against Sophie was stronger than her dislike for Savannah. Sage pretended to go along with the anti-Savannah plan but was secretly committed to voting out Sophie.

Kristina also publicly claimed she wanted Savannah out, telling other players, “My vote tonight is going to Savannah”. This was part of a plan to make Sophie feel safe. Unbeknownst to most players, Sophi Balerdi held a secret “Knowledge is Power” advantage, which allows her to steal another player’s idol or advantage if she can correctly name it.

Tribal Council and the Unanimous Blindside

At Tribal Council, the discussion focused on challenge strength and revenge. Sage became emotional talking about Jawan, who was now on the jury watching. Kristina reiterated her stated plan to vote for Savannah.

When it came time to vote, Steven decided not to use his Block-a-Vote advantage. No idols were played. Jeff Probst read the votes: one for Savannah, then four consecutive votes for Sophie Segreti.

The result was a clean, unanimous blindside. Sophie had voted for Savannah, but everyone else voted for her. On the jury bench, Jawan smiled and applauded for Sage, who looked back at him with a victorious expression. Sophie was shocked but gracious in defeat.

After the vote, Sophie said, “Oh my god, you guys got me good. And no, none of you can have my jacket”.

Aftermath and Host Jeff Probst’s Reaction

In her exit interview, Sophie reacted to being unanimously blindsided. “I’m taking it a little bit like a compliment that this means I was a big threat to everybody’s game,” she said. “I guess now I’m the ‘other Sophie’ because I’m the first Sophie voted out”.

Host Jeff Probst discussed the vote on the official On Fire podcast. He revealed that Sophie had applied for the show multiple times before finally making it onto Season 49 and was initially an alternate for a previous season.

Jeff Probst said, “Sophie was a legit threat to win. And unfortunately, when you have those qualities, you become a target, and you have to figure out how to survive the vote. Itโ€™s not unfair, itโ€™s the game”.

Probst explained that Sophie was one of the first players cast for this season, writing in his notes, “Must be on the show”. He praised her personality and determination.

What’s Next for the Final Six Players?

With Sophie’s exit, Survivor 49 is down to its final six contestants. The remaining players are:

  • Savannah Louie
  • Rizo Velovic
  • Steven Ramm
  • Kristina Mills
  • Sage Ahrens-Nichols
  • Sophi Balerdi

Sophi still holds the secret Knowledge is Power advantage. Rizo still has a hidden immunity idol that he has not yet played. Steven retains his unused Block-a-Vote advantage. The next episode will determine who moves on to the final five and gets closer to the $1 million prize.
