Taylor Swift has spoken out about the public release of her private text messages with Blake Lively. The texts were part of a large group of documents unsealed in Lively’s ongoing legal battle against her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. A source close to Swift says the singer feels “exposed and kind of violated” by the private messages becoming public.
The messages, which date back to late 2024, show Swift supporting Lively during the conflict with Baldoni. In one, Swift refers to Baldoni with a derogatory term and mentions a “tiny violin”. The leaked conversation also included a personal moment where Swift told Lively she missed her “funny, dark, normal-speaking friend” amid the stress of the lawsuit.
Details of the Unsealed Text Messages
The text messages were unsealed by a judge on January 20, 2026, ahead of a hearing in the lawsuit. They reveal private conversations between the two friends during a difficult period. In one exchange from December 2024, Swift sent Lively a screenshot of a news article where Baldoni discussed past relationship trauma. Swift’s message read, “I think this b—- knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin”.
Lively responded, comparing Baldoni’s public statements to his past behavior toward her. In a later text, after news broke that Baldoni had been dropped by his agency, Swift wrote to Lively, “You won. You did it. And you โฆ helped so many people who won’t have to go through this again”.
The documents also show a more vulnerable side of their friendship. Lively texted Swift to check on their relationship, feeling she had been a “bad friend” while consumed by her legal troubles. Swift replied honestly, saying she had felt a “shift” and that some of Lively’s messages felt impersonal, “like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees”. Swift ended her message with, “You don’t need to apologize. Just come back please”.
Taylor Swift’s Reaction and Legal Position
Sources say Swift is deeply unhappy that her private texts are now public. “It’s honestly been really hard for Taylor,” a source told Us Weekly. “Having her texts out there made her feel exposed and kind of violated, like, something private suddenly wasn’t hers anymore. That doesn’t sit well with her”. Another source stressed that Swift “wasn’t trying to get involved” in the legal drama but was simply supporting a friend in what she believed was a private conversation.
Swift’s legal team has consistently worked to distance her from the lawsuit. Last year, when Baldoni’s team attempted to subpoena Swift, her spokesperson called it a move to “draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case”. The spokesperson also stated clearly that “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie” and was not involved in creative decisions, noting she was traveling the world on her Eras Tour during the film’s production.
The Core of the Blake Lively vs. Justin Baldoni Lawsuit
The texts were released as part of the pre-trial process for a high-stakes lawsuit. Blake Lively first filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department in December 2024, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of their film “It Ends With Us”. She also alleged that Baldoni and his production company engaged in a “social manipulation” campaign to damage her reputation.
Justin Baldoni has denied all allegations. He filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others, accusing them of extortion and defamation. That countersuit was dismissed by a judge in June 2025. Lively’s lawsuit against Baldoni continues, with a trial currently set to begin on May 18, 2026.
Other evidence unsealed includes testimony from actress Jenny Slate, who also appeared in the film. In her deposition, Slate called the shoot “really gross and disturbing” and described Baldoni as a “false ally” and an “intense narcissist”. Text messages between Baldoni and others were also released, showing he was frustrated during production, once texting that Lively had a “nuclear bomb” if she chose not to promote the film.

Fan and Public Reaction to the Leaked Taylor Swift Texts
The release of the texts sparked widespread discussion online. Some found the candid language between Swift and Lively relatable, while others criticized it. The phrase “tiny violin” used by Swift in her text notably appears in her song “Cancelled” from her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl, leading fans to speculate the song is connected to this situation.
Public relations experts note that Swift’s decision to remain publicly silent speaks volumes. “She has publicly distanced herself from this โ and I get why. She likely hopes to stay out of the mess entirely,” said PR expert Adrienne Uthe. “But for someone as media-savvy as Taylor Swift to stay out of this? That speaks volumes”.
The situation highlights the risk of private digital communication, especially during legal disputes. “Anybody now can take a screen grab,” said Rob Shuter, a former celebrity publicist. “It’s not private”.
