Teja Sajja is officially returning to the zombie universe that made him a household name. The makers of Zombie Reddy have announced the sequel, titled Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl, on the occasion of the actor’s 31st birthday. The film brings back Teja Sajja as the franchise’s zombie-slaying lead and adds Kannada superstar Upendra and Bollywood actress Shanaya Kapoor to the cast. The announcement came with a title teaser that promises a bigger, bloodier, and more ambitious zombie spectacle.
The Big Announcement on Teja Sajja’s Birthday
The makers of Zombie Reddy chose August 23, 2026, a special date for Teja Sajja, to reveal the sequel. The actor turned 31 on this day, and the announcement served as a birthday gift from the production team. People Media Factory, the banner behind the original film, shared the news alongside a title announcement video. The production house wrote on social media: “Welcoming you all back to the ZOMBIE-VERSE. This time, it’s BIGGER, BADDER & BLOODIER. Happy Birthday, Superhero Teja Sajja”.
The title teaser shows Teja Sajja standing alone as thousands of zombies surround him. The glimpse also features zombies taking over Hyderabad, with the iconic Charminar appearing prominently. This suggests that the sequel will expand the story beyond the original film’s setting in Kurnool. The teaser begins with a disclaimer revealing that no AI was used for its development.
New Director Takes Over the Franchise
While Prasanth Varma created and directed the original Zombie Reddy, he will not return as the director for the sequel. Instead, Suparn S. Varma takes charge of the project. Prasanth Varma remains attached as the creator and writer. Suparn S. Varma is known for his work on Prime Video’s The Family Man Season 2, Netflix’s Rana Naidu, and the film Haq.
Speaking about the sequel, Suparn S. Varma said:
“Every society creates monsters to process its deepest, collective anxieties. Zombies have always been the ultimate figments of our catastrophisation—they reflect our fear of losing control, of the breakdown of order. The plan with Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl was to attempt the unprecedented.”
He added: “Having spent years crafting grounded, hyper-realistic political and emotional friction in projects, transitioning into this unapologetically chaotic sandbox is such a thrill. A huge shout out to the foundational brilliance that Prasanth Varma created. We hope to take that to the next level for a visceral cinematic experience.”
Star-Studded Cast Joins the Zombie-Verse
The sequel brings together an impressive lineup of talent from different film industries. Teja Sajja returns as the central character, the zombie slayer who must save his village from the outbreak. Upendra, a superstar in Kannada cinema, has joined the cast in a prominent role. Shanaya Kapoor, known for Tu Yaa Main, will make her South Indian cinema debut with this film.
Teja Sajja shared his excitement about returning to the franchise:
“For me, the most rewarding part of this journey has been the freedom to take chances and trust the audience to come along. Zombie Reddy was one such leap, and the way people embraced that world and my character gave us the confidence to dream much bigger. Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl is that dream taken several steps further.”
He also said: “The biggest takeaway from my career is that cinema survives on audacity, not formulas. When Zombie Reddy was made, it was a calculated risk born out of a desire to break the monotony of conventional storytelling. I can’t thank the audience enough for embracing me as a zombie slayer.”
The Creative Team Behind the Sequel
The sequel has assembled a strong technical team. Gowra Hari, known for his work on HanuMan and Mirai, will compose the music. Abhinandan Ramanujam serves as the cinematographer, while Vijay Velukutty handles editing. Banglan takes care of production design.
The screenplay has been written by Hussain Dalal, Prasanth Varma, and Suparn S. Varma. Abbas Dalal and Subbu K are also part of the writing team. The film is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad under the People Media Factory banner.
TG Vishwa Prasad, the producer, said:
“The economics of global cinema have fundamentally shifted; audiences no longer look at films through a cultural footprint. At People Media Factory, our philosophy is architecting massive, multi-genre cultural events in the name of cinema that resonates. Our sequel Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl is the epitome of that vision.”
What to Expect from Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl
The sequel promises to be a larger and more ambitious project than the original. Suparn S. Varma described the film as an attempt to expand the zombie concept into a much bigger world. The film is being described as a zombie action-comedy that combines horror, action, and humor.
The original Zombie Reddy, released in February 2021, followed a game developer who must save his village after a scientist’s vaccine experiment triggers a zombie outbreak. The film was partially based on the COVID-19 pandemic and was set in the district of Kurnool. It became a hit among Telugu audiences and was recognized as Telugu cinema’s first-ever zombie film.
The sequel aims to take that concept to the next level. Suparn S. Varma explained:
“Zombies have always been a fascinating expression of our worst catastrophes, and with this film, we wanted to take that idea to the next level. We’ve taken the foundational brilliance that Prasanth Varma created and blown it wide open, building a never-seen-before zombieverse.”
Multilingual Release in Seven Languages
Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl is planned as a multilingual release. The film will be available in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Nepali, and Japanese. This wide release strategy reflects the makers’ ambition to reach a global audience.
TG Vishwa Prasad noted that the film is being developed as a large-scale adventure for audiences beyond India, with the release planned across India and Japan. The film is scheduled to release in 2027.

A New Chapter in the Zombie-Verse
With a new director, a bigger cast, an expanded setting, and a promise of more zombie chaos, Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl is clearly aiming to transform the quirky original into a larger-scale franchise. The film brings together talent from different film industries and is set to release in multiple languages, making it one of the most anticipated South Indian films of 2027.
Teja Sajja summed up his feelings about the project:
“As I turn a year older, the zombies turn deadlier. With the audience validating everyone associated with the film, I’m all set to fight the dead onscreen like never before. It makes me very proud to be part of a team that wants to give viewers a grand, immersive spectacle that feeds their appetite for the extraordinary.”
