After a dramatic season finale that saw the chef stepping back, Jeremy Allen White has shared new details about the future of The Bear. The star confirmed that Season 5 is officially moving forward, with filming set to begin soon, and opened up about how long the hit series could continue.
The Road to Season 5 and What’s Next
In July 2025, FX announced the renewal of The Bear for a fifth season, set to premiere in 2026. The announcement came just days after the entire fourth season was released on Hulu on June 25, 2025. This quick renewal highlights the show’s continued strong performance with viewers.
John Landgraf, the Chairman of FX, commented on the renewal, stating the show remains a “fan favorite worldwide” and that the team is excited to keep telling the story.
The path to Season 5 was not always certain. Jeremy Allen White revealed that the creative plan initially ended with Season 4. He shared that creator Christopher Storer called him on Christmas Eve in 2024 to say they would be doing more.
โThe fourth season was going to be the last,โ White said. โChris called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, โWeโre gonna do some more.โ And, I donโt know, that could happen again around this holiday time. Thereโs no plans for it to be the last.โ
White emphasized that the decision to continue beyond Season 5 rests entirely with Storer. He expressed his personal love for the project and his co-stars, noting he would happily continue for a long time.
Season 5 Production and Release Details
A major update on production arrived in late November 2025. While discussing his role in the Bruce Springsteen biopic, White confirmed when cameras would start rolling for the new season.
โJanuary 5 or something like that. Very soon,โ White stated regarding the start of filming.
This schedule aligns with the show’s pattern of annual releases since its 2022 debut, making a 2026 premiere on Hulu very likely. With filming starting in early January, a summer or fall 2026 release seems possible.
The main cast is expected to return, including Ayo Edebiri as Sydney and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie. The core team of Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colรณn-Zayas, and Matty Matheson is also slated to come back.
Where the Story Goes After Season 4’s Finale
Season 4 ended with a major shift for the restaurant and its founder. In the finale, titled “Goodbye,” Carmy tells Sydney he is planning to leave The Bear, having already secretly removed his name from the partnership papers. He confesses that cooking no longer feels like his passion, leaving Sydney to step up as the de facto leader of the restaurant.
This sets the stage for Season 5 to explore a significant transition. The story will likely focus on Carmy’s exit and a changing of the guard, with Sydney proposing that Richie and Carmy’s sister, Natalie, become partners. The finale also provided emotional closure for the characters, showing Carmy finally attending his late brother’s funeral and sharing a moment of understanding with Natalie and Richie.

Balancing Busy Schedules and Show’s Legacy
A practical challenge for the future of The Bear is the skyrocketing careers of its cast. All three leads have packed schedules with major film projects, which could impact the show’s production timeline beyond Season 5.
Jeremy Allen White starred as Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere and has roles in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film and a sequel to The Social Network. Ayo Edebiri is set to appear in films with Julia Roberts and Woody Harrelson. Ebon Moss-Bachrach has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ben Grimm/The Thing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and will appear in future Avengers films.
Despite these busy schedules, the show’s success is undeniable. The Bear has won numerous awards, including 11 Emmy Awards for its second seasonโthe most wins ever for a comedy series in a single year. It has been named an AFI Television Program of the Year for its first three seasons.
Fans reacting to the renewal on social media expressed mixed feelings about the Season 4 ending. Some were concerned about the show continuing without Carmy at the center, with one fan posting, “The show can’t be The Bear without the Bear!!”. Others appreciated the realistic and intense portrayal of the restaurant industry, though some noted the high-stress atmosphere.
For now, viewers can watch all existing seasons, including the current fourth season, on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in international markets. The exact 2026 release date for Season 5 on these platforms is expected to be announced later in the year.
