Valerie Cherish’s secret is finally out, and the result is a complete disaster for the aging sitcom star. The Comeback Season 3 Episode 6 shows Valerie’s world falling apart after the world learns that her new show, How’s That?!, is being written entirely by artificial intelligence. The episode, which aired on HBO on April 26, 2026, ends with Valerie facing extreme public backlash and losing control of her comeback. This episode is a turning point for the season because a shocking betrayal from someone very close to Valerie leads to her public humiliation. While Valerie tried her best to keep the AI a secret to save her career, the truth comes out in the worst possible way, leaving her future in Hollywood in serious danger.
The Pressure Builds Before the Crash
The episode starts with Valerie feeling the stress of managing her chaotic new sitcom. Her husband, Mark, decides to leave for Burning Man, which surprises Valerie because she needs his support right now. During a marketing meeting, the studio shows Valerie a promotional poster for her show. The poster uses her face on another actor’s body, and it was created by AI without her permission. Even though Valerie feels uneasy, she tries to stay positive and focuses on solving the many problems on set.

Valerie also has to deal with her difficult co-star, Billy, who is more interested in making his own reality content than helping the show. Billy forces Valerie to join a couples therapy session with a therapist named David Berkus while cameras are rolling. Billy tells Valerie that since she does everything in front of the camera, she should help him with his mental health project. Valerie agrees to avoid more conflict, but it is clear that her partnership with Billy is hurting her more than helping her.
A Serious Problem with a Crew Member
The episode also handles a very serious workplace issue. Frank, one of the actors on How’s That?!, tells Valerie that the hairdresser, Tommy, keeps touching him and getting too close to his personal space. Frank feels very uncomfortable but does not want to cause trouble. Valerie agrees to speak with Tommy on Frank’s behalf. When Valerie asks Tommy to stop making Frank uncomfortable, Tommy gets angry and decides to quit the show immediately. This situation adds to Valerie’s growing list of problems, as she now has to find a new hairdresser while trying to keep the rest of the cast happy.

The Cast Finds Out About the AI
The most important moment in the episode happens when Valerie’s cast members finally discover the truth about the writing process. Walter calls a meeting with the actors and asks what is really going on with the show. Valerie mistakenly thinks Walter is talking about the use of AI, so she accidentally reveals the secret. She tells everyone that the show has no human writers and that all the scripts come from a computer program.
The actors are shocked at first, but their reaction is not what Valerie expects. Instead of getting angry, most of the cast members say they are happy there are no writers around. They explain that writers usually complain a lot and slow down the filming process. One actor says that having no writers makes the job more fun because they can say their own lines. Valerie feels relieved that the cast supports the AI, but this moment sets up an even bigger disaster for later.
Jane’s Big Betrayal
The biggest shock in The Comeback Season 3 Episode 6 comes from Jane, Valerie’s documentary filmmaker. Jane is supposed to be recording everything behind the scenes, but in this episode, she steps in front of the camera for the first time. Laura Silverman, who plays Jane, recently spoke about this huge change for her character. She explained that Jane’s girlfriend Perri (played by Clea DuVall) is very worried because Jane has stopped going to work at Trader Joe’s to focus only on the documentary about Valerie’s AI show.
The drama reaches its peak when Billy demands that Jane sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to keep the AI secret. Jane refuses to sign it. She also tells everyone that she has not cashed a single paycheck since she started working on this project. Jane believes that people have a right to know that AI is taking jobs away from writers. She wants to show the world what is happening right now, even if it hurts Valerie. Billy calls security, and Jane is taken away from the set.
Laura Silverman told TV Insider that Jane’s actions come from a genuine place. She explained that Jane has become like a sister to Valerie over the years, but Jane is also a journalist who cares deeply about the truth. Silverman said:
In a way, they’ve become sisters, and they’ve become allies. Jane learns a hard lesson in this upcoming episode that when you’re too narrowly focused on what you think that your ethics and your principles are, you’re turning your back on people in a way that isn’t healthy. You have to be able to hold many truths at once, and sometimes chasing a story can make the focus too narrow. So I think that because of the sisterhood between them, what they’ve gone through together, and also what Valerie is going through, Jane becomes an ally.

The Secret Goes Public
Right after Jane is removed from the set, the nightmare truly begins for Valerie. She finds out that the news about the show using AI has been leaked to the press. Reporters are saying that How’s That?! is the first sitcom written by a computer, and the public is furious. Valerie starts receiving endless threats and hateful messages online. Writers from all over Hollywood are posting videos blaming Valerie for supporting a technology that could destroy their careers.
Valerie watches in horror as Jane appears on a news program to talk about the AI secret. Even though Jane tells the interviewer that Valerie asked the studio to hire real writers and that this was not Valerie’s fault, the damage is already done. The public sees Valerie as the face of a dangerous new technology. Her career, which she worked so hard to rebuild, is now in serious danger. At the very end of the episode, Mark returns home early from Burning Man to support his wife. He finds her sitting alone, completely broken and devastated.
