Story So Far: Episode 8 Recap
Episode 8, titled “Pengembaraan Sang Raja” (The King’s Journey), delivered intense action and high stakes. After defeating Narikin Rana and leveling up, Elma and Luvis found themselves trapped in an abnormal situation called Wandering. The Dungeon Master began roaming freely inside the dungeon, creating a life-threatening scenario.
With no escape route available, Elma made a difficult decision. He ordered Luvis to flee while he stayed behind to face the Dungeon Master alone. The episode ended on a cliffhanger, with Elma preparing to confront the powerful enemy by himself.
Prior episodes have shown Elma’s growth as he uses his game knowledge from a previous life to overcome challenges. The series follows Elma Edvan, who was exiled from his noble family after receiving the “defective” Heavy Knight class. His family, the Edvan bloodline known for producing Sword Saints, disowned him for manifesting what they considered a useless class.
However, Elma possesses memories of a past life where he mastered a VR game identical to this world. This knowledge allows him to understand that the Heavy Knight class can actually become one of the most powerful builds when properly developed.
Episode 9 Preview: What to Expect
Episode 9 is titled “Penguasa Mimpi” (Dream Ruler). The preview suggests that Elma will face the Dungeon Master Embryo alone, finding himself in a life-or-death crisis due to the enemy’s fierce attacks.
Luce, who had been told to escape, returns to the dungeon without regard for the danger. Together, Elma and Luce will risk everything in a final gamble. The episode promises high-stakes action as the duo faces overwhelming odds.
Japanese voice actor Takeo Ōtsuka voices Elma Edvan, with Shion Wakayama as Luce Rubis and Natsuko Abe as Maris Edvan. The opening theme song “Awake” is performed by SPYAIR, while ReoNa performs the ending theme song “Lv.1 Class: Human”.
The animation is produced by Studio GoHands, with Shingo Suzuki serving as General Director and Katsumasa Yokomine as Anime Director.

Series Background
The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System is based on the light novel series written by Nekoko and illustrated by Jaian. The story follows Elma Edvan, born into a prestigious family of master swordsmen. His future shatters when he awakens the so-called “defective” Heavy Knight class.
Disowned and cast out, Elma regains memories of another life and realizes this world mirrors a VR game he once mastered. Armed with knowledge no one else possesses, he sets out to rewrite his fate and prove the strength of the “weakest” class.
The series has drawn comparisons to The Rising of the Shield Hero for its premise of a protagonist overcoming a perceived weakness. Elma uses his wits and game knowledge to defeat much more powerful monsters.
