KBS 2TV’s thriller series The Husband delivered its most shocking episode yet on July 12. Episode 4 turned the drama’s calmest character into a complete nightmare, leaving viewers stunned by the sudden shift in tone. The show, which stars Namkoong Min as a desperate husband searching for his kidnapped wife, took a dark turn that changed everything.
The episode opened right where the previous one ended. Police authorities believed that Kang Tae-ju (Namkoong Min) was trapped inside a crashed car. But when they arrived to check, they found that Tae-ju had already escaped. What followed was an intense chase sequence that showed Tae-ju’s determination to save his wife Go Se-yun (Lee Seol). He ran through buildings, dodged police officers, and even treated a wounded officer before escaping again. This moment reminded viewers that despite everything, Tae-ju remains a doctor at heart.
The Mysterious Stranger Reveals His Painful Past
Tae-ju finally reached the location where a mysterious man had asked him to come. The man, who came out of the shadows, took Tae-ju to a room and told him he would have to find his wife alone. Tae-ju grew suspicious and pointed his gun at the man. But the man skillfully disarmed him. However, Tae-ju did not give up. He used one of the injections he had stolen from the hospital and injected the man.
When Tae-ju looked around the room, he found pictures of himself and his wife covering the walls. The man had been watching their case closely. Tae-ju then found the man’s ID. His name was Lee Suhyeong (Park Byung Eun), and he used to work at the National Police Agency.
Lee Suhyeong then shared his heartbreaking story. Six years ago, his wife was kidnapped by the same person who now holds Se-yun. He received a ransom call from a man named Mr. Noh, who demanded money. Suhyeong, despite being a police officer, followed the kidnapper’s orders to save his wife. He paid the money, but Mr. Noh asked for more. Suhyeong agreed again. But when he reached the drop-off location, Mr. Noh did not return his wife. Later, Suhyeong found her dead body.
Since that day, Suhyeong had been searching for Mr. Noh. He finally got a lead through Tae-ju’s case. He told Tae-ju that his wife did not have much time left, as victims often end up dead soon. Suhyeong also gave Tae-ju internal police files.
The Terrifying Villain Shows His True Colors
While Tae-ju was forming an uneasy alliance with Suhyeong, things took a horrific turn at the kidnapper’s hideout. Mr. Noh (Kim Dae Myung), who had seemed like a calm and ordinary person, revealed his true nature in the most disturbing way possible.
Earlier, Se-yun had tried to escape. She had broken out of her room and was trying to help another captive named Seon-ja. But Mr. Noh returned to the hideout just in time. He saw Se-yun attempting to escape through the camera feeds. When he arrived, he brutally hit her and knocked her unconscious.
What happened next was truly terrifying. Mr. Noh murdered Seon-ja with a sledgehammer while forcing Se-yun to hear everything. The most frightening part was Mr. Noh’s behavior throughout this act. He never raised his voice. He never lost control. His calmness made the scene even more terrifying. This is what made Episode 4 so shocking – the calmest character in the show turned into a complete nightmare.
Instead of begging for mercy, Se-yun defiantly challenged Mr. Noh to kill her as well. She refused to let fear completely consume her.
Tae-ju Becomes the Suspect Everyone Believes He Is
Back in the outside world, Tae-ju’s situation kept getting worse. Suhyeong convinced Tae-ju to go to his in-laws’ house and collect the ransom money. Tae-ju broke into their home with his gun drawn. His in-laws, who already believed he had kidnapped their daughter, were terrified.
Tae-ju demanded 3 billion won (approximately $2 million) from them. His father-in-law (Jang Gwang) and mother-in-law (Oh Min Ae) were shocked and scared. They begged him to release their daughter. Tae-ju tried to explain that he believed she was still alive and needed the money to save her.
When his father-in-law threatened to call the police, Tae-ju fired two shots in the air. He escaped with the money just as the police arrived. The next morning, news of Tae-ju stealing ransom money from his in-laws hit the media.
Everyone now believed Tae-ju was the criminal. Even though he kept insisting he was innocent, nobody believed him. The kidnapper watched the news with fascination, wondering what Tae-ju was up to.
Ratings Reach New Heights
The Husband Episode 4 was a huge success with viewers. According to Nielsen Korea, the episode recorded an average nationwide rating of 7.2 percent. It also reached a peak rating of 8.5 percent. This was a major increase of 1.9 percentage points compared to Episode 3 and became the drama’s highest rating so far. The show also ranked No. 1 among all dramas airing in the same time slot across terrestrial and non-terrestrial channels.
The episode had a runtime of 70 minutes. It was directed by Kim Jung-hyun and written by Jung Jae-ha.
The Story Behind the Marriage
Episode 4 also included a flashback that showed what Tae-ju and Se-yun’s married life was like before everything fell apart. Se-yun was seen waiting for Tae-ju every day. She was worried about him because he had become obsessed with work and was missing out on family time. The flashback helped viewers understand why Se-yun blamed him for their daughter’s death. It wasn’t a sudden event, but days of being left out that pushed the wife to end it all. The couple needed proper communication and work-life balance, which could have saved not just their marriage but their child too.
