Based on the 2021 novel by Jordan Tannahill (who also adapted the screenplay), The Listeners centers on Claire Kutty (Rebecca Hall), a popular and charismatic high school English teacher.
Claire’s seemingly ordinary life with her husband Paul (Prasanna Puwanarajah) and teenage daughter Ashley (Mia Tharia) is disrupted when she starts hearing a persistent, low-frequency humming noise that no one else in her family or at the hospital can detect.
Desperate for answers, she discovers that one of her students, Kyle (Ollie West), can hear the sound too. This discovery leads them to a mysterious support group led by a charismatic couple, Jo (Gayle Rankin) and Omar (Amr Waked), who believe the “Hum” is not a curse, but a gift reserved for a “chosen few.”
Enigmatic, provocative, and haunting, the story explores themes of isolation, conspiracy culture, and the desperate human need for connection.
