CBS is getting ready to say goodbye to The Neighborhood after eight seasons on the air. The popular sitcom about two very different families living next door to each other in Pasadena, California, will air a special farewell event before the final episode ever airs. The Neighborhood: A Farewell Special comes to CBS on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8/7c. The special will also stream on Paramount+ for those who prefer to watch online.
The show has produced 156 episodes since it first started in 2018. The actual series finale will follow about a month later on May 11, 2026. Entertainment Tonight is putting together this farewell special. Kevin Frazier from ET will host the event, which was filmed right on the show’s own stages where all the magic happened for the past eight years.
Every Main Cast Member Coming Back for the Farewell Special
The farewell special brings back the entire main cast that viewers have grown to love. Cedric the Entertainer leads the group as Calvin Butler, the proud and outspoken unofficial mayor of the neighborhood. His character has been the heart of the show since day one, always ready with a funny comment but also deeply caring about his family and community.
Max Greenfield returns as Dave Johnson, the super friendly Midwestern guy who moved his family next door to Calvin. What started as a clash of cultures turned into an unlikely but strong friendship over eight seasons. Beth Behrs plays Gemma Johnson, Dave’s wife who helps keep the family grounded while navigating life in their new neighborhood.

What Viewers Will See in The Neighborhood Farewell Special
The special gives fans a real look behind the curtain. Entertainment Tonight filmed exclusive new interviews with the cast members as they looked back on their time making the show. They talk about the early days of filming and how the show changed over time.
Never-before-seen footage will also play during the special. The ET Vault opened up to provide archival interviews and moments that have never been shown to the public before. Fans will get to see some of the most memorable scenes from the show’s run along with the stories behind those moments.
The farewell special also takes viewers inside the final days of production. Cameras captured the last table read where the cast went through the final episode’s script together for one last time. There are also intimate moments from the final tapings that show just how emotional saying goodbye has been for everyone involved.
Cedric the Entertainer gave a heartfelt speech during the final filming day back in February 2026. Tichina Arnold shared a video on her Instagram showing the moment. The cast stood together on the Johnsons’ living room set as Cedric spoke to the crew and his fellow actors.
“If you do your job, respect is given all the way around. That’s the greatest thing about this experience.” – Cedric the Entertainer during final filming
The cast’s final wrap party also gets featured in the special. There were speeches, laughs, memories shared, and some surprises as everyone celebrated the end of an era.
A Sneak Peek at the Series Finale
Right at the end of the farewell special, CBS will show a preview of the actual series finale. The cast and producers talk about what fans can expect when the Butlers and Johnsons say their final goodbyes on May 11, 2026.
The series finale will air after the farewell special has given everyone a chance to look back. Episode 16 of season eight comes on April 13, episode 17 on April 20, episode 18 on April 27, and episode 19 on May 4. The final episode, number 20, airs on May 11.
